Two more 40k armies went undefeated at the eighty-player Boise Cup GT tournament. Check out what these factions brought to squeeze out consistent victories.
The Boise Cup 40k tournament brought in a whopping eighty players to roll some dice. Of these eighty players, only three came in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Take a look at what they brought to wage war. Thanks to Best Coast Pairings, we can look back on the event as if we were there ourselves.
3rd Place: Imperial Knights- Ben Cromwell
This Knight list went with almost as much dakka as he could possibly bring. Oddly enough, there wasn’t even a Castellan in sight. This player opted for three whole Avenger Gatling Cannons and missile pods. The Wardens are especially useful in all phases of combat because they can unload their cannons, charge in and wipe any enemy armor, fallback, rinse and repeat. For the CP battery, a fairly cheap Ad Mech Battalion was brought along with some Rangers and Breachers.
Breachers aren’t seen all too often in Ad Mech lists but their high toughness in a Troop slot is definitely nice. As a speed bump for the enemy, two squads of Sicarian Infiltrators were also taken. Depending on the deployment, they could start the game already sitting on objectives in the middle of the field. While this is still a Knight list (which we’ve seen countless times), it’s more on the unique side. Great job.
2nd Place: Blood Angels- Thomas Hegstrom
Hold. The. Phone. We’ve got an all-Blood Angels list ladies and gentlemen! Because Blood Angels are all geared towards melee, a Chaplain with a jump pack lead a Battalion of Scouts along with the Sanguinor and a Librarian with a jump pack. The mobility of these characters allowed them to beef up whatever unit that was in melee (which the Blood Angels have a lot of sweet buffs for).
A second Battalion brought more Scouts and some Infiltrators out to play. That’s a total of thirty models infiltrating up the board before the game even started. Not too shabby. But moving onto the real hitting power of the list, a Vanguard was taken with a Sanguinary Ancient, a Thunder Hammer-focused squad of Death Company and some Sanguinary Guard.
Between the psychic powers that give bonus attacks, the Sanguinor, and the Ancient, the Death Company/Sanguinary Guard were able to bring an unreal amount of dice into melee with them with some re-rolls thanks to the Chaplain. Space Marines might have few numbers compared to horde armies like Orks and Tyranids. However, they know how to dish out the attacks with the right characters close by.
To tie up any loose ends against the enemy, the Operative Requisition Sanctioned strat was taken allowing for any Assassin to be cherry-picked per game. Awesome job!
1st Place: Orks- Richard Kilton
Orks managed to come in first place once again! The first Battalion brought four different squads of Evil Sunz Boyz to make the most of their movement. One squad of Shootas and a few varying squads of Slugga Choppa Boyz hit the field and occasionally got flung up the board with the Weirdboy’s Da Jump. And to make everybody hit even better, a Nob with a Waaagh! banner hung around in the sea of Greenskinz.
A cheap-o Battalion of Deathskulls was filled with Gretchin for some CP and the Vigilus Detachment relic, Da Souped-up Shokka for the Big Mek. And lastly, the final Battalion spammed more Gretchin with the real hitting power coming from the Bad Moons Lootas.
With wave after wave of Boyz slamming into things, it tied up the enemy long enough for the Lootas hiding behind Gretchin to plink wounds off of the enemy. Great job with another awesome Ork list!
