What Armies will we see at the Warhammer 40k ATC?

By Wesley Floyd | July 13th, 2018 | Categories: 40k News & Articles

The 40k American Team Championships are coming to Tennessee later this week. Let’s look at what armies everyone will be playing, and the total diversity.

With 74 five-player teams confirmed coming to the event out of the 180 that registered this event, the 2018 ATC’s are one of the biggest team events for Warhammer 40k.

Field of Fire Gaming gave us a great breakdown of all the army factions that have been submitted to the event and boy does it look way different than 2017’s selections!  With the drop of 8th edition and the boat-load of FAQs we’ve been through, this year’s army roster looks almost totally different to last year’s.

Last Year’s ATC Breakdown:

ATC 2017

Generally speaking, this list is spread fairly evenly throughout. What we mean by that is there are no crazy number hikes between two factions on the list.

Most factions are having multiple people play them. The factions near the bottom didn’t have a codex at the time, but in the 2018 ATC list, they’re near the top.

Looks like codexes make a big difference after all.

The Imperium is going to be coming in strong at the tournament with a majority of the players bringing Imperial Guard. The token detachment will more than likely be nothing but Custodes as that’s all we’ve seen from the time of their release.

The Guard just farm CPs while they do most of the legwork. Dark Eldar and Imperial Knights are the next on the list for armies. They both just got their codexes most recently so you know they’ll be a real force to be reckoned with.

Way to go Grey Knights. Even though an entire edition and multiple FAQs have beaten you to a pulp, you refuse to give up. That’s dedication to the Emperor!
