3D-Printed NERF Bolt RifleGet ready for madness as Fauxhammer 3D-printed and painted a working Warhammer 40k bolter in this tutorial- check it out!

Fauxhammer has some amazing hobby content. So, if you love keeping up with the latest painting and 3D printing tech, you should be sure to check him out!  This time, he does something a little different and prints out a working replica bolter gun, perfect for any aspiring Space Marine!

This Working 3D-Printed Warhammer 40k Bolter is Wild!

3D-Printed NERF Bolt Rifle 2He was a little surprised about how easy this whole project was! We’ll summarize how he did it, but be sure to watch the full video below for all the tips and tricks on how to make your own!

The Printer Used

3D-Printed NERF Bolt Rifle 3He did the whole thing on his Bambu X-1 Carbon, which seems to handle the job easily. Here are the specs on it if you want to grab your own (or just ogle over it).

  • Core XY with 20000 mm/s² acceleration
  • Up to 16 multi-color printing
  • Dual auto bed leveling
  • 7μm lidar resolution
  • Spaghetti failure detection
  • AI inspected first layer

Where to Get Your Own 3d Bolter Files Perfect for Warhammer 40k

3D-Printed NERF Bolt Rifle 4You can grab your own files from Cults 3D right here! That way, you can actually make your own version; just keep in mind the printer he’s using has a multi-color function, so if you don’t have that, you might have to paint your own (he ended up doing that as well).

Printing the Piece

3D-Printed NERF Bolt Rifle 5This is a very well-designed figure with different assemblies. All you have to do is just split them out and hit print! With how easy this is, he’s surprised that GW hasn’t partnered with NERF yet. With an FDM printer, you will always have some lines on something this big, and he started with a super low profile on each layer but then decided on a .2mm height. However, if he did it again, he would go down to .12mm.

3D-Printed NERF Bolt Rifle 6Obviously, this isn’t a 1:1 recreation of a Space Marine Bolt Rifle. Otherwise, it wouldn’t be up on the market long. So, he did end up painting this one to make it as close as he could, but like with any life-size recreations of Warhammer stuff, it’s not going to be exactly perfect.

3D-Printed NERF Bolt Rifle 7It has a ton of unique little details, such as the grip. The bolts look great, and it has a few working parts. However, if you make something like this too mechanical, it may put too many people off from actually making it.

Assembly Tips

3D-Printed NERF Bolt Rifle 8Just like with any big model, you want to dry-fit everything as best you can before you start building it! Once it’s partially together, you can actually start gluing the parts. He also sanded the top part to make it as smooth as possible; honestly, though, it’s a ton of effort and still looks good even if you really don’t sand them.

3D-Printed NERF Bolt Rifle 9Fauxhammer admits he was lazy, and just spray-painted the pieces excessively. However, it will fill in most of the gaps and take way less time than sanding! He then painted the outside with official GW colors… but you don’t have to.

You can even use sandable automotive primer for the first coat which can get you an even smoother surface to further prime with the colored sprays.
