Sixth Edition Cometh?

By Rob Baer | May 30th, 2012 | Categories: 40k News & Articles, Editorials, Sixth Edition.

Brace for Impact! Sixth Edition is almost here?!!

Hot on the heels of all those 5th Edition books disappearing from shelves and Games Workshop’s main site over the weekend, we’re hearing more and more rumors as the release is seemingly imminent!
So what’s next?  Well let’s take a look back to the summer of 2010, when 8th Edition Fantasy hit!
Fantasy broke in late June of that year with a one month countdown to it’s release in July.  They releases a super awesome Collector’s edition, as well as the normal book, and tons of new templates and markers for the new mechanics.
If their collectors edition of Fantasy was any indicator of what the 40k one might be, sign me up now!
That thing was amazing with gold plating and high quality paper stock pages.
So where does that leave us for a release date? Good question…

We haven’t had a one month countdown to any release in well over a year, and as the rumor mongers have pegged July 14th as the “official rumored release date” for sixth, I’m not buying in quite yet.

I think we’ll see the typical two week out unveiling via White Dwarf and GW’s advanced order website, as opposed to the one month buildup we saw with Fantasy 8th Edition.
So when will the countdown begin? Well, we all know it will be in the White Dwarf, and the new one of those won’t be out for a full month, so it’s possible I suppose it will be in July’s White Dwarf.
But until the rumor dam starts to fracture completely, all we have to go on is a continued trickle of rumors, and gut feelings.

Besides being hungry right now, my guts telling me we may all be wrong… sixth may be farther off than we think.

What do you think, when will we see the new book? -MBG

LEGO maniac and scale model hobbyist in the 80s turned miniature wargamer and trading card player ever since. He’s played every edition of Warhammer 40k and Warhammer Fantasy (since 5th Edition), but Titans of all sizes will always be his favorite!
