Hoverboard That Would Make Any Nerd Giggle

In 1989, when Back to the Future Part 2 came out, everybody immediately wanted a hover-board.

That desire to ditch the wheels hasn’t seemed to go anywhere. Fortunately, Lexus managed to make the time crunch with what they called “Slide”. Although, we probably wont have a kids version for a few more years, it’s 2015 and we (supposedly) have hover capabilities.

Now all that’s left is to start dressing with actual fashion!

(Somebody get my metal hardhat!!)

Of course, there is more to the hover-board than just Back to the Future references. The science behind it is actually quite astounding. If you just want to go ahead and watch a cool video click here. However, Ive written down some basics. It uses superconducting magnets, some of which are nitrogen cooled, which means two things: You can position it at any level at any angle, and stay that way unless force is applied toward another direction, and that it has gas coming through vents… Now, we’ve all seen science fiction flicks, and the way you know somethings working is that some form of greyish gas is pumped out of every orifice.

Of course, very little is known about “Slide” basically all that we have is a little video, and a micro-site found here. And a little video (which happens to be the opening to the micro-site) which can be found below.

If everything is as we hope, and Lexus isn’t pulling our leg (which would most likely perpetuate the rage of a thousand angry nerds) then we’ll be able to escape any futuristic bad-dudes that come our way!
