Games Workshop just announced a huge BETA rule change to the way that Katophrane relics could quickly overpower most opponents in Warhammer Underworlds: Shadespire.

If you are familiar with Shadespire, you will know that Kataphrane’s equipment upgrades are a powerhouse that can effectively secure the game after three or more have been equipped.

To lessen the slippery slope of defeat for your opponent, The developers have introduced a Beta rule to give the opposing player a bit more time to react.

The beta rule we’re now introducing increases the cost of each Katophrane Relic card to 2 glory points. In practice, this will mean that, in order to get enough glory points to equip 6 Katophrane Relics, you’ll need to play proactively and aggressively, giving your opponent a chance to respond and leading to better games. We’ll be using this beta rule at upcoming events run by us, and we’d welcome any tournament organisers who want to do the same to try it out.

This is not necessarily a “rule” but a change in cost. Katophrane’s equipment upgrades now cost two glory instead of one.

There’s still a way to rush out some Katophrane’s with the Spoils of Battle card. It should be pretty easy to get two upgrades in the first two turns as long as your deck is geared that way.

What do you think about this FAQ? Have you seen a lot of Katophrane equipment decks? Let us know in the comments on Facebook.
