Want more some inspiration for your next Warhammer game? Check out these 40k homebrew army lists that crushed it at the London GT.

Every now and then, we find lists that might not have come placed at a tournament but still did well using completely off-meta units. As it turns out, there are some pretty good combos out there that a few players aren’t afraid to try in a tournament setting. Here are the latest top three homebrew lists spotted from the London 40k Grand Tourney.london grand tourunamentThanks for Best Coast Pairings, we can look back at the events as if we were there ourselves.

Deathskulls Orks- Martin Buch

Believe it or not, Ork soup is a thing. Bringing the best units that compliment Clan Kultures, most Ork lists bring three different factions. However, this list brought a Brigade and a Battalion of nothing but Deathskulls. Every list needs Boyz and a ton of characters to work properly. These Boy blobs were given Tankbusta bombs and sent out ahead of everyone else. As for the rest of the army, they huddled around a Big Mek with a Kustom Forcefield and flooded the board with Gretchin.

For the unique units of the list, this player brought a Gorkanaut, Kommandos, and even Deffkoptas. When’s the last time you’ve seen these three all make an appearance under one army? While most of the firepower was covered in the form of Mek Gunz being screened by Gretchin, it’s awesome to see so many non-meta units finish in 11th place overall from the event out of nearly 400 players.

Black Templars- James Marsden

Looking at an all-Black Templars list that didn’t do too bad, it brought along its exclusive Vigilus formation and loaded up with Intercessor squads. Helbrecht, an Emperor’s Champion, and a beefed-up Chaplain led the charge against the enemies here as well. With this list bringing dakka Centurions, we’re also coming to find that they’re still a great option outside of the Imperial Fists Siegebreaker Cohort formation.

In the second Battalion, more Intercessors were brought for the minimum Troops allotment. Two of the new Warsuits were also brought with their incendium cannons. Beyond that, Eliminators hung back on objectives and popped heads where they could. However, as these guys are Heavy Support options, it also let the player fit in a storm cannon Leviathan! With rerolls from Helbrecht and a Lieutenant, dakka Leviathans can wreak havoc on enemy armor and elites. Overall, great job bringing the latest Primaris units to hit the field along with an age-old Chapter that hasn’t been coined “competitive” since the start of 8th.

White Scars- Patrick Fearis

RUMORS: Next Space Marine Chapter Codex Named White Scars

Looking at an all White-Scars list, this army brought some of the latest Primaris gear as well in a Chapter that we haven’t seen appear near the top in ages. Khan led a Battalion of Intercessors on his bike with some supporting squads of multi-melta attack bikes.

Jumping into the real points sink of the list, two Repulsor Executioners were brought with their heavy laser destroyers. Getting to fire twice with each model including all of the rerolls, these guys could pop armor. As for the rest of the points, Warsuits were brought in a Vanguard. Being led by a Librarian, the Warsuits were able to start the game mid-field. These mini-Dreads forced the opponent to deal with their insane damage output for the points. Overall, great job!
