The Uriel Ventris Black Library Celebration mini has arrived in our latest unboxing and build!
We’re back unboxing the new Uriel Ventris GW exclusive! Rob sees what it takes to get it ready for the tabletop, shows the size of the model, and tells you the GOTCHAS to be aware of when building it!

To be honest, the box he comes in is really cool! This is the Black Library 2021 Celebration mini, runs for $35, and stores only got 3 each, so if you see one, you may want to grab it quickly. Also, this mini shows a bit of a turning point for GW, because this is the first time they’ve caved to pressure and actually changed the head on this mini.
The original one got so much hate, they changed the sprue for this and the head in just three months- something interesting to think about.
Comparing the Heads
The box still has the old head on the front, but the head is obviously different. They must have already made the boxes, but hey- at least they could change the sculpt!
Instructions & Sprues
They give you a bunch of views to see how everything goes together, and nothing seems hard to build. If you want to fill the gaps on the edges scenic base, Rob recommends using the Liquitex Resin Sand, because it’s easy to use and works great.
Overall the pieces look super detailed and nothing stands out on the sprue as too hard to build. It isn’t push-fit though so there will be some mold lines to trim. It’s also interesting because there is an empty slot on the sprue, but GW decided to just scrap the original head altogether and not fill that slot.

This actually took longer to clip off the sprue than build, overall the design of the mini was done incredibly well. The only GOTCHA to watch out for is how much glue you use on the feet, Rob put too much and had to clip a little bit off. Lastly, the cape is multipart, so Rob used the Tamiya Extra Thin Cement for it so it doesn’t get all funky with a bunch of glue.
Size Comparisons
He sizes up pretty well with both Lazarus and Mephiston, so no worries there. Also, both of these great minis were painted up by the hobby maniacs at Hellfire Hobbies!
