New Slaanesh Syll’Esske Rules From OCT White Dwarf SPOTTED

keep of secrets slaanesh loreSyll’Esske is back with a vengeance and four total Warscroll Battalions. Check out all the new rules from the inside of October’s White Dwarf.

Spotted on War of Sigmar, there’s a whole list of Syll’Esske-themed Warscroll Battalions found in a mini-Battletome from October’s White Dwarf. There’s different Battalion compositions, rules, and points, check out even more ways you can run your Slaaneshi force.

Syll’Esske WD Warscroll Battalions

Note that while all of these Warscroll Battalions are themed around Syll’Esske in some way, they do not all have him in the unit options.

WD slaanesh vengeance unleashed

Before jumping head-first into all of the Warscroll Battalions available, keep in mind that there are amazing bonuses you get if you create your list just right. As Syll’Esske is 50% Daemon and 50% mortal tyrant, the wombo combo of their friendship is something that carries over into the army. If you have 50% of your force as Mortals and 50% of your force as Daemons, you can get anywhere between D3-D6 CP a turn.

What’s even better, if you’ve got a hero that gets hurt within 12″ of Syll’Esske, you get depravity points instead. In the early-game, this should help slingshot you into the high-point numbers giving you some serious potency and flexibility in-game.

Finally, for the Battalion points, they’re about middle of the road from what we’ve seen in other armies Battletomes. If you wanted to bring one of every kind at full strength, however, you’re probably going to need to play a bigger game than the standard 2k points.

Daemonsteel Contingent- 110 pts (Syll’Esskan Host Only)

WD daemonsteel Contingent

The Daemonsteel Contingent is a unique Warscroll Battalion being solely focused on bringing Soul Grinders. If you bring them in this Battalion, you’ll be able to add 1 to the save rolls for the unit bringing their base save to a chunky 3+. The really cool thing about this Battalion is that it’s super easy to fill out (you only need one unit). However, if you’re already paying the points for it, you might as well bring at least two!

Vengeful Throng- 140 pts  (Syll’Esskan Host Only)

WD vengeful throng

We’ve covered this in an earlier post already. However, by filling out this Battalion, you’ll be able to proc multiple instances of D3 mortal wounds whenever you get the charge off. If you really want to increase your chances of mortal wounds, just bring minimum-sized units and make sure you always get the charge off when you declare the Headlong Charge. It can be a real game-shifter if you roll right but you’re only getting one phase of the D3 mortal wound and bonus charge rules.

Devout Supplicants- 160 pts

chaos warshrine

With the Chaos Warshrine effects above, for Slaanesh, it essentially means that your Mortal units nearby won’t need to take a battleshock test and can reroll charges on a 2+. Not too bad considering the minimum you need for the Battalion is only four drops (one being a Warshrine).

The Vengeful Alliance- 100 pts

And finally, the head honcho Battalion that is made up of other smaller Warscroll Battalions. Syll’Esske is at the head of this one and while it takes a lot of points getting put into buying multiple Battalions, Brutal Tyranny  has a decent effect. You always count as being Bravery 10 for everyone on the battlefield and you also always get a bonus CP. Keep in mind that this goes away if Syll’Esske dies so rest assured he will have a target on his back.

With all of this covered, what seems like the most powerful Warscroll Battalion to you? Does three Soul Grinders with a 3+ save sound like a competitive start? How hard is Syll’Esske to kill in AoS?
