Best & Worst Warhammer The Old World Armies In The Meta So Far

Warhammmer the old world new rumors rules release date latest base guide sizes wal hor titleHere are the best Warhammer The Old World Armies so far in the meta, and all the factions in between!

The game is still in its infancy, but like any game, there are going to be armies dominating and armies doing… let’s say not so hot. Obviously, the game is still very early on, but we really don’t know how fast GW is going to patch the game, especially considering there are really only two armies released from them. This means a lot of people playing are using their old models and not really making armies perfectly with the new rules.

Best & Worst Warhammer The Old World Army In The Meta So Far

Here is the latest on the Warhammer Old World Meta, according to Woehammer.

Best Warhammer The Old World ArmyAs we said, the game is very young, and there aren’t a giant number of games to go on. So, take this with as much salt as you need because the small sample size is never great for data. Either way, it’s still good to see where armies are sitting and how they are performing.

Well, from what we can see, the win rates are all over the place! There are only two armies sitting within the 45%-55% range where Games Workshop considers armies balanced.  The rest of the factions seem to be either flying high or getting destroyed.

WoeHammer collected these numbers from RTTs, and they have some interesting additions here above and beyond the rate. The numbers in orange show how the win rates would have been changed with a single more win. Then, the numbers next to the armies are how many games this is based on.

We count all draws as 0.5 win and 0.5 draw. We also (for Old World only) currently include mirror matches.

The data above shows the faction name and the number of games that faction has seen at all events in brackets. For example Ogre Kingdoms (12) would show that the stats are based on 12 games featuring the Ogre Kingdoms faction at all events in our database.

The orange segment is new to the stats for the Old World. We’ve included this as we realise the data size is small and therefore wanted to show the effect of what an additional win would do to the stats. For example, Deamons of Chaos (3), currently have a win rate of 67%. If they were to play another game and win that game, then there win rate would increase by 8% (shown in the orange bar).

As you can see, these sample sizes are far too small to draw any meaningful conclusions to yet, but we will be keeping an eye on the data and providing more analysis as the data increases.

What Does It All Mean?

factions warhammer the old world According to these stats, the army with the highest win rate (Tomb Kings) and the army with the lowest (Orcs & Goblins) win rate actually have some of the most games played. So those might actually be the most correct rates. It’s also interesting to see the Tomb Kings doing so well and the Bretonnians doing so poorly, as we expected GW to give them both the most support since they are the starter armies.

The legacy army factions (here are all the factions considered “legacy”) win rates are noticeably all over the place. Even though GW says they aren’t going to support them, tournaments are obviously allowing them. So it could be that some sort of organized play group outside of Games Workshop may need to balance these rules a bit.

While this isn’t a lot of data to go on, the meta for Warhammer the Old World is looking wild, with win rates flying all the way from 29% to 70%. Regardless, right now looks to be a great time to play the undead legions of Khemri!
