Atlantic City Open: Top Warhammer 40k Homebrew Army List

40k-homebrew-army-listsGrey Knights are still viable in competitive play as a new general’s Warhammer 40k army list emerged at the Atlantic City Open!

9th Edition’s meta is again in flux, but some players take lists with units that nobody expected. Check out this awesome homebrew list that emerged in a tournament over the weekend. This just goes to show us that sometimes it’s more about the general’s skill than what you play.

Thanks to Best Coast Pairings we can look back at the event as if we were all there ourselves. You can also get out the event details here.

If you wanted to see the names and factions of the overall winners, we’ve included that below.

However, we aren’t covering all those lists, instead, we will be looking at just one of our favorites this week.

Atlantic City Open: Tony Phillips – Grey Knight 10th Place

Tony placed fairly well in the ever-evolving meta with a Grey Knights list comprised of a battalion led by a Librarian, Grand Master, and Draigo. The Librarian helps by providing good psychic support, while Draigo is one of the best psykers in the game and an overall fantastic HQ.

The Grand Master in Nemesis Dreadknight, which is a phenomenal single model with durability, firepower in melee and range, a great hit re-roll aura, and the ability to cast psychic powers!

Troops bring in a total of 15 Strike Squad bodies, which are decent enough, but mainly just fill out the role slot.

Elites start off with an Apothecary for some heals throughout the game and a 10-man Paladin squad which are pretty good bodies that are durable and can lay down the beat-stick in melee. There are also 8 servitors, which provide minor utility but are really just there to round out the list points to the cap of 2k.

Fast Attacks bring in much-needed utility with a 5 man interceptor squad just in case there is a far-away objective or a weakened squad on the run.

Finally closing the list are Heavy Supports with 2 Nemesis Dreadknights. These are the slightly cheaper version of the Grand Master HQ, but they offer very similar levels of power, without the extra support and benefit of being a character.
