Games Workshop has released free downloadable PDF army books for the legacy factions in Warhammer The Old World. These rules are not intended for matched play events and will not be updated in line with any future Warhammer: the Old World publications. However, players can still use them for Old World in friendly games. The armies covered in the rules include Lizardmen, Dark Elves, Vampire Counts, Ogre Kingdoms, Skaven, Daemons of Chaos, and Chaos Dwarfs. If you have old miniatures of these armies, you can score all the rules for free and enjoy playing them with your friends. There is also a small FAQ to the rulebook, which we’ll check out before we jump into the Legacy armies.

Here is the latest on the free Warhammer The Old World rules for Legacy Factions.
The rules contained within this document allow players the opportunity to try out the Warhammer: The Old World rules using models they may have in their collection. They are not intended for use in matched play events and will not be updated in line with any future Warhammer: the Old World publications.
This is the most definitive we’ve heard them say these legacy factions will never have other rules. But, at least you can play them in games with your friends, and they do have tentative plans to update them as well. Let’s check out the rules!
Warhammer The Old World FAQ
There’s plenty more to come from the World of Legend. If you have rules questions, you can email the Warhammer: The Old World team at old-world FAQ @gwplc.com. They won’t respond directly, but your questions will inform what they hope will become a biannual FAQ/errata update. There’s even an initial list of clarifications available here.
The Warhammer the Old World FAQ is already four pages long, but the game does have a lot going on, so it makes sense there would need to be some clarifications.

Lizardmen Warhammer the Old World Rules
They are still a big faction in AoS, so we guess that’s why most of these aren’t getting more support for the Old World. Either way, if you have a full army of square-based lizards, you can score all the rules for free!

Dark Elves Rules
The Dark Elves have long been a staple in fantasy, and it’s a little sad not to see them as a staple army in the Old World.

Vampire Counts Rules
The Tomb Kings take the main spot as the undead army in the Old World, but with how big vampires are in AoS, it makes (some) sense for GW not to want them to compete with the Old World.

It’s interesting that some of the models on the Warhammer site still have square bases in the pictures, but they are only getting legacy rules this time around.

This is probably the most disappointing faction (to us, at least) not getting full support in the game, as Skaven is about as fantasy as they come.

Games Workshop said they would release these rules for free, and it looks like they are delivering! So even if you have old miniatures of these armies, you can score all the rules for free now and enjoy playing them with your friends. Perhaps even some tournaments may allow these in the future as well?
