5 Speedpaints Tips: The Army Painter Tutorial

Army Painter SpeedpaintAs we said, they are a little different from normal paints, so, let’s see how to use them! If you want to pick up your own set, you can here.

Tip #1:

Speedpaints Tips 2They recommend using their Matt White base spray for the most vibrant results. However, you can also use the Air Primer version of it or any other color. Just remember, it will drastically change how your minis come out. So for the easiest path to awesomeness, they recommend white. Just remember, you should always do a test model first to make sure it comes out the way you want.

Tip #2:

Speedpaints Tips 3They put their mixing balls in all of these, so with that in mind, be sure to mix your paints up well! Then, make sure the mixing balls don’t get stuck inside the nozzle, that’s no good.

Tip #3:

Speedpaints Tips 4Don’t store your bottles upside down! Pretty simple but this can cause problems with the mixing balls and the cap popping off. If you are pouring out your paint and nothing comes out, don’t squeeze harder! Take a toothpick and clean out the nozzle.

Tip #4:

Speedpaints Tips 5This one is super helpful, use a hard palette and not a wet palette. While the wet palette is generally a great tool, for something like this it is better to go with the hard palette.

Tip #5:

Speedpaints Tips 6This is probably the most important tip. Because they are designed to spread out evenly with a resin polymer additive, so they can sometimes get reactivated when you paint over top of it. So be sure to let your paint dry- of if you are doing more than one coat, (keep in mind this is a one-coat solution so that’s a little overkill), be sure to clear coat varnish your models. We have seen people have no trouble painting over it, when models dry but it’s always better to clear coat your models just to be safe too.

There you have it! Some great tips on getting your models ready for paint!
