Top Homebrew 40k Army List: Showdown at Frogtown GT

40k-homebrew-army-listsAnother off-meta Warhammer 9th Edition 40k army list emerged in the Showdown at Frogtown, check this one out!

9th Edition’s meta is still settling, but some players are taking lists with units that nobody was expecting. Check out this awesome homebrew list that emerged in a tournament over the weekend. They didn’t do too bad and just goes to show that sometimes it’s more about the general’s skill than what you play.

Right out of the gates, this list is more unique because it not only plays the new Be’lakor, but it also plays his Army of Renown!

Be’lakor’s new profile makes him an absolute beast in combat and allows him to provide tons of rerolls to his buddies who follow him. With him in the HQ slot is a Changecaster for some psychic support and a Herald of Slaanesh, which fills a Slaanesh spot for low point investment. One of the restrictions for Disciples of Be’lakor is that you need one unit from each god before getting an additional one from any god. This means you can’t ever have 2 more of any god’s units than any other god.

Troops bring in two squads of Bloodletters offering up some decent melee threats, although a little squishy if focused by opponents. There are also 2 Nurgling Squads that offer tough bodies that are great at tieing up units or even just sitting on objectives.

Moving onto Elites, there are 9 Beasts of Nurgle, which have 2 damage melee weapons, although with no ap are still good weapons against marines and the works. Fiends are a little bit better in melee although they are also more expensive than the Beasts. The final Daemon Elite is a unit of flamers, which serve as some of the only ranged units available to Daemon lists.

However, because this is Be’lakor’s list, they also get access to some CSM goodies!  That allows the list to include two Volkite Culverin Dreads, giving the list more ranged options. These also provide a ton of chaff clearing and can continuously wipe out 2-wound model squads, while also being very durable.

Overall this list offers a unique approach, but we like it because of their all-in on an aspect of their faction in a response to the meta.

Even better they got decent results from the player who piloted it! It’s also very encouraging when a player is able to play a previously widely considered “underpowered” army or list style so effectively.

What do you think about this homebrew 40k army list from last weekend that caught our eye?
