Jack of Clubs is a regular guest on the Long War and on Spikey Bits because he is a wizard at all things conversions and painting. Lately, he’s been tackling more conversion projects and he will often stream as well! Today he is giving us all a peek inside of his method to make bigger “true scale” centurions. He does this with a few key changes, mainly tackling proportions.
First off, he gets some pre-assembly done. The arms, leg structure, leg armor, and chest are all assembled here. He also has some close combat bits from the kit and a few small pieces of green stuff prepared.
For the first change, we need to trim the bits on the side of the chest to be flush. Above the left side is complete and the right is not.
Next up we can begin gluing our model together. We are using three small green stuff spacers. One for the neck and one for each shoulder. Be sure to glue under and over each spacer so it can cure onto the plastics correctly (black dots are glue).
Also, glue the arms on before putting on the pads!
As we start the legs, we want to cut the two close combat bits to form small extenders as seen above.
Up next we begin feet prep by trimming it flush as seen above and gluing our extenders from the previous step to the feet.
This next section has a couple of steps. First, we need to cut off and sand the side toes of the feet, then use the same glue and green stuff technique from before to glue the feet on. Then, we need to separate the thigh and shin armor into two pieces so that they can be replaced in the new corresponding positions.
Lastly, we’re gluing the two halves together and then place the rest of the armor on as normal!
