Games Workshop’s popular online card game centered on Warhammer 40k’s units could be hiding more new release clues in plain sight.

Combat Cards- Warhammer 40k Edition uses all of the tabletop/lore units that we all know, however, there could be clues within the cards pointing to the future tabletop releases as well.

Combat Cards: 40k Edition Iron Chaplain Furnous

With that said, this guy might look new to you. But he was actually spotted in an earlier Iron Hands preview.

And if you look closely, he’s actually a base Primaris Chaplain converted up with the Iron Hands upgrade sprues. While he’s a named character in the Combat Card game, he’s still a regular Chaplain in the 40k tabletop version.

While nothing completely new has been spotted, we should keep our eyes peeled for any new cards/characters /models that make their way into the game or indicate an emphasis from GW.

The cards may even give us a bit more insight on where GW could be taking the tabletop version of 40k, as Psychic Awakening unfolds.

More Models In-Game Than There Are Models in the Citadel Paint App

Invictor Tacitcal WarsuitAn analyst familiar with Warhammer 40k also had this to say about the game:

The “card art” isn’t art.  It’s photographs of the GW studio models with a lightly animated “cloud” background.  There are more picture of models in this game than there are in the GW paint app.

The cards / models used in the game are an eclectic mix of old school and brand new models, with “primary” chapters (Ultramarines, Raven Guard, etc) and some alternative ones (Howling Griffins, Aurora Chapter, and Minotaurs). Primaris Shrike has made an appearance, along with an old school techmarine and a tactical marine with grav gun.

Games Workshop has already announced that they are continuously looking for new ways to bring their universe to different people. They are willing to share IP and work with companies that want to promote their universe.

The same analyst also said:

…the amount of involvement from the GW studio is more direct than for any other computerized property I’ve seen.

While nothing has been spotted as of yet, we should keep our eyes peeled for any new cards that make their way into the game. It doesn’t necessarily confirm any new models/characters coming to the 40k tabletop. However, the possibility definitely stands.

They also have themed events and releases that seem, so far, to line up with that is coming out at roughly the same time model-wise.
