The post dataslate meta might still be settling in, and proof of that is Chaos Space Marines’ sudden drop back down and World Eaters’ rise after being completely different 2 weeks ago!

This is what Mr. Taste had to say:

Leagues of Votann came out of nowhere this week with three podium finishes, but with the firepower they possessed, it shouldn’t be a surprise. Chaos Knights also made a showing, along with the old powerhouse of Genestealer Cults grabbing a first place!

Two weeks ago, we saw 12 factions take the top spots, but this week, that number went to 13, which is still decent, and more is always better.

The biggest winner must be Votann, as people suddenly found a rhythm and got the third most places this week.

But how about the larger meta picture overall?  Well, Eldar certainly has more competition at tournaments after the balance dataslate, which makes us hopeful that the competitive scene will continue to get better, and they finally aren’t on top from the weekend…

How to Read This Warhammer 40k Meta Overview Chart:

The Warhammer 40k Meta Overview Chart is color-coded for the most part. Grey is the sweet spot; ideally, every faction would be light grey or between a 45% and 55% win rate.

Blue is overpowered, and in contrast, Oranges are underpowered. Essentially, the darker shades are too far gone and need changes or shifts in the Meta. That’s not to say every darker blue and orange faction needs balance changes, but it DOES mean something needs to be done.

Game balance and meta are super complex, with each faction (and general’s ability) being its own cogs in the bigger picture.

Simply put, the most played faction in any competitive game should never be the most winning faction. As the popularity of a faction goes up, the skill, specified knowledge, and experience of the average player in that faction go down (new players moving to it).

What’s New With Competitive Warhammer 40k This Week?

Leagues of Votann Kâhl 3 wal

Leagues of Votann and Tau might be the two biggest benefactors of the Dataslate, as they both went from abysmal win rates to higher than 50% (Tau dropped but is still hovering near that, now at 47%)! But this week, Votann takes the cake!

Eldar are still stupid good, and Chaos Space Marines are right there combating them, but Votann has since snuggled up and is also putting up a fight and is arguably the 3rd best faction in last week’s stats!

World Eaters and Black Templars also improved and are among the highest of the “fair” armies (between 45%-55% WR). All the other NERFs seem to have had the intended purpose, except the ones for both Custodes and Knights, as they are now the lowest win rates in the game. (which GW mentioned multiple times in their Metawatch updates.)

Either way, there are still a couple of outliers, but most armies are resting in that 45%-55% zone where GW tries to keep the armies.
