eBay Miniature Rescues is back with another painting tutorial video- this time he’s saving a Finecast Mephiston from extinction!

This week though, he shows us how you can save a classic mini from the brink of horror!
Saving a Finecast Mephiston: eBay Miniature Rescue
Here’s the mini he’ll be rescuing today! He got him for only $15 off eBay, so a pretty good price. He starts by stripping off all the paint, but because this is resin (aka failcast), it took some serious time. Because he had to run the Sonic Cleaner, let it cool, brush it, then do it again.

Airbrushing
He starts with a black primer. Then he loads up a dark red into the airbrush and does a layer over the whole mini. Then he lightens the red and does smaller top-down coats to build up the color and opacity.
Base Coats
He does all the hilts, back of his coat, and a few other areas with black. Then he does a medium silver base coat for all of the metal bits. He uses warm gold for all the trim and just gets good coverage. For the face base coat, he takes a light flesh coat in light layers to not cover any detail.
Then he hits a Reilkand Wash on all the face and chest. After that, he takes some light red and starts his highlights on the robe. Lastly, he adds in a little orange color to really finish off the highlights.
Details
He uses the Tamiya Panel Liner to give a better contrast to all the parts he wants some darker colors, especially Metallics. To finish the face, he does lighter and lighter highlights almost up to pure white on the highest parts. Next, he takes some brown wash and hits all the deep areas of the robes, face, and chest.
To finish the mini off, he grabs some light blue in the airbrush and hits the plasma coils. Then he takes a bright white and does a single spray in the middle of the gun.
Finished Mini
This video is a little different from how he normally does videos. But he wanted to still give a lot of hints while being able to cut down production time because he and his wife are expecting their second child. Congrats Casey! Plus overall the mini turned out great!
