Saving er Painting Old Space Marine Scouts

ebay miniature rescue feature reBay Miniature Rescues is back with another painting tutorial video- this time he’s saving some old Space Marine Scouts!

eBay Miniature Rescues is a unique channel that shows you how to take beat-up, damaged minis, and restore them to their fullest potential! It’s a relatively new channel on YouTube and it’s super fun to watch what Casey is able to do with some once hopeless miniatures. He has a ton of great videos, which you can check out here!

This week though, he shows us how you can save some 28-year-old Scouts and make them perfectly themed for the Imperial Fists! Check it out

Saving er Painting Old Space Marine Scouts

Old Space Marine ScoutsThese are the OG scouts we’ll be saving today! They were already stripped of paint so he won’t have to do that step. Let’s see how he turns them into some Imperial Fists.

Finding them on eBay

ebay findHe picked this up for about 2o bucks and that seems pretty close to the going rate, but you can always find them cheaper if you’re willing to take the time. You can even find the Rogue Trader ones!

Getting them ready

getting the scouts readyEven though they were stripped of paint, he still had to sand some mold lines and pick off the tiny bits of paint left with a dental pick.

Doing the Bases

scout basesHe had some old cork bases from a previous project. All he had to do was cut off the old slotted bases, sand the feet, drill out for a pin, and get ready to glue them down.

Priming

Priming the scoutsHe first primes them with a coat of black from the airbrush and then a topdown coat of white to bring in some shadows.

Painting the Armor

Painting the armorHe’s starting with Burnt Umber ink and put in some shadows from the bottom up. Then he goes with Golden High Flow Acrylic Yellow and thins it down in the airbrush. He just does a bunch of small passes to keep the layers thin and builds it up.

Hitting the Details

Scout detailsHe uses Flesh Tearer’s Red for the Aquilla and just does a nice base coat. For the leather, he uses a dark brown for the base coat and then moved to a lighter brown for the highlight. Finally, he uses Vallejo Silver for all the metals.

Painting the Heads

Painting the scout facesFor the hair, he gives them a few different colors to differentiate them. He goes with light brown, dark brown, and black. To highlight the hair he mixes in a little off-white with the initial color and hits a little ring around the outside. For the faces, he starts with Cadian Flesh Tone and does a couple of super thin layers to not take away from the detail. To give the face more definition he does a wash of Reikland Flesh Shade and a shade of Agrax Earth for the hair. After everything is dry, he goes over everything with a highlight of Cadian Flesh and a touch of off-white as the final highlight.

Painting the eyesFor the eyes, he uses pure white as the main base coat. He then drops some Bloodletter Glaze in the eyes to give them a glowing look and then does another dot of white to finish them off.

Final Details

Old Scouts washHe uses the Tamyia Panel Liner over all the silver to give it a more finished look.

Finished Minis

finished old scoutsThis video is a little different from how he normally does videos. But he wanted to still give a lot of hints while being able to cut down production time because his wife is pregnant with their second child. Congrats Casey! But overall the minis turned out great!
