Space Marine Codex Book REVEALED

Will there be a dedicated Space Marine Codex released? Tongues are starting to waggle about the fate of the Astartes in 8th Edition!

UPDATE: There is indeed a new Space Marine Codex that was just confirmed minutes before press time of this article:

More will be forthcoming about the new codex books shortly:Codex Sneak Peak Spread Plus

Codexes?
Didn’t you hear? New codexes are coming soon!

If you’ve been familiar with Warhammer 40,000 for a while, the concept will be familiar to you, but for those of you just joining us, a codex is a book dedicated to a specific faction within Warhammer 40,000 – the definitive guide to that army.

How soon? You can expect to see around 10 new codexes before Christmas, starting with Codex: Space Marines, coming later this month.

Coming later this month eh? That statement is the whole point of this article that was written on 4 July (yesterday).

Original Article:

We just saw the new Space Marine previews in July’s White Dwarf, but there was no codex anywhere to be found… or was there. Remember ever since the White Dwarf went monthly, traditionally Games Workshop seems to only put advertising in there for the releases for the first two weeks-ish of the issue.

Then around the middle of the calendar month they drop a huge teaser video / feature on the second half of the month’s releases in what may be a two pronged marketing assault that may be aimed at getting customers to both read the magazine (in what is increasingly becoming a digital age) and visit their various online medias as well.

June was no different with GW teasing the new 8th Edition starters and ETB models that headlined July’s White Dwarf just weeks later.

So it is possible that given the current state of GW’s marketing strategy of second half of the month reveals, that at any time we just don’t know what is coming for sure towards the end of any month..

Que the internet, and salt shakers everywhere.

Today we saw a once sentence fade away rumor post from a European site that is very declarative:

According to Mini-Wars (translated to English)

And finally we have confirmation that there will be a Space Marine Codex , which will have more information  than the Index – it is to be expected – and we hope it will not take long ..

No time frame, or price for the book was indicated.

While GW has said that codex books would be released in the future, how soon is too soon to start adding to the mounting pile of reference material that hobbyists need in 8th Edition to play a game?

How Will Space Marines Work in 8th Edition 40k? Index Imperium I

Index Imperium 1 The Index: Imperium 1 book is 224 pages worth of information, rules, and datasheets for all Space Marine chapters and the general Space Marine unit and equipment lists. Now that we have our hands on this Index, we dove right in. A more thorough Tips and Tactics breakdown for all the indexes and factions will be coming in the near future. So, get ready to praise the Emperor! Here is a sample of our full review.

Now, the five indexes are merely transitional as they are intended to hold us over unit Codexes are released. GW has left things spread out a bit so that they can be changed easily if necessary. A caveat that will come into play when wanting to have different units from different armies in your detachment. This comes in the form of  the majority of detachment restrictions that state “All units must be from the same faction”.

This restriction can be bypassed if stated otherwise in a faction’s army list (like for the Genestealer Cult). For Space Marines, they are broken down by the “Chapter” keyword. We cannot stress this enough that this will be important as certain abilities can only be used by certain Chapters. Only command units can affect squads whose “Chapter” keyword they share.

Also, every Space Marine list will have a wargear listing with exceptions and exclusions as to what can be equipped.
