Games Workshop continues their previews for the Age of Sigmar General’s Handbook 2017 with a teaser for the Grand Alliance: Death!

Released on Warhammer Community, Death army commanders have much to look forward to in the new General’s Handbook according to this teaser from Games Workshop. There are updated command traits, artifacts, and allegiance abilities that will help Death players raise powerful and versatile lists. Here are the key points from the teaser.

A Deathlords army, for example, can make use of powerful Mortarchs and use a strong core of Morghast Archai while allying in a key monster like the Terrorgheist that would otherwise be difficult to summon. Similarly, many Death factions can add a caster like Arkhan the Black or a handy Necromancerto their forces, providing key magical support.

Here we see the practical application of the Allies mechanic that was previewed in the General’s Handbook post. Nighthaunts and Deathrattles will definitely receive a boost since they lack wizards.

Flesh-eater Courts armies can now choose a powerful Delusion that applies to the whole force … and have command traits and artefacts to further arm your heroes. Your Abhorrant Ghoul Kings just got deadlier.

This Allegiance Ability is just one of the several new abilities that several Death Factions are receiving with the General’s Handbook 2017.

Nighthaunt forces make powerful and otherworldly armies in the new General’s handbook. They are capable of deploying to the battlefield in the middle of the game or even turning one of their Cairn Wraiths or Tomb Banshees into a Wizard. If you choose the Nighthaunt allegiance, you’ll also be able to benefit from Hexwraiths as battleline units.

The Nighthaunters will be a fast, hard hitting army with these new Allegiance abilities and traits that are coming.

You’ll also be able to pick a bloodline for your Vampires indicating if they hail from an ancient clan of Necromancers or a draconic order of knights and giving them powerful traits.

Soulblight Artifacts

A preview of what this will mean is forthcoming but it looks very promising for this army that has a strong, versatile elite army.

One small but significant change that’s going to be great for Death armies in the new edition is Massive Regiments. This new addition to matched play is aimed at making horde units more viable by offering players a points discount when they take a unit at its full size; you’ll want to take your Skeleton Warriors in units of 40 and your Zombies in units of 60.

Horde units more viable now with a point discount?? Necromancers, get to raising already!

There you have what was teased for Grand Alliance: Death in the General’s Handbook 2017. The new General’s Handbook is due to be released next month and it will be in paperback to help keep the price low. So far our predictions of GW’s August New Releases are looking accurate.

What do you think about the changes coming to Death? Is there anything in particular you’re hoping to see Allegiance Ability or Traits-wise? Let us know in the comments below.
