GW Announced New 40k Balance Dataslate

Balance Datasheet warhammer 40k dataslate 10th EditionMany people expected the new 40k Balance Dataslate right after LVO, but GW has now released it along with new rules commentary and Munitorium Points changes!

While waiting is a little annoying, we would rather Games Workshop get everything buttoned up before dropping the fresh new Balance Dataslate for Warhammer 40k. GW mentioned this will be a pretty big one, and if it is anything like the last, it might change the game quite a bit!

Warhammer 40k Balance Dataslate Changes

warhammer 40k balance dataslate update

The new Balance Dataslate update was released on January 30th, 2024, as Games Workshop coyishly said it would release in January.  It has revamped the game of Warhammer 40k once again as points adjustments look to shake up the current meta, and rules updates will bring offenders to heel.

Chaos Space Marines are no longer able to reroll hits. Their lone operator stratagem , and Accursed Cultists are less crazy but still probably worth it. World Eaters have been NERFED. Unfortunately, there have been no Necron changes. Archons can now lead Incubi. There have been significant point cuts for Daemons, but bringing daemon allies has become harder. Imperial Guard got hit hard. Tau Crisis has been NERFED from the looks of it, along with Votann, and some minor ones to Sisters.

Wraithguard are definitely not going to see play now, while the Yncarne is still good, and Nightspinners are probably still worth taking.  Imperial Knights have received some significant point buffs, which may get them back in the fight! Custodes have effectively been reverted to their release state, with points buffs and FNP working on mortal wounds again (suck it devastating). Death Guard grenade spam is no more.

Plus, in the Rules Commentary, they clarify Arriving from Strategic Reserves in the First Battle Round and ability stacking as things like Nurgles Rot can affect units per instance now.

GW Announced The New 40k Balance Dataslate Date.

Here is the latest on the upcoming 40k Balance Dataslate.

delayed 40k Dataslate

On their X (or Twitter), they confirmed we’ll see the changes next week. While it’s nothing too wild (as we don’t expect them to drop it on the weekend), this means we have only until Wednesday for it to drop in January.  Either way, you don’t have that long to wait if your army is struggling!

And finally, we know you’re all keen to get a proper update from the next Battlescroll. From what we’ve heard it’s coming soon – potentially at some point next month – as the Warhammer Age of Sigmar team are working hard on final adjustments based on what they saw at LVO.

We’ll be back next week to look over the results from the Warhammer 40,000 tournament at the Las Vegas Open. See you then!

In their recent Meta Watch article for AoS, Games Workshop mentioned in the last two sentences that they would be looking at the 40k results from LVO next week. So we expect to see a new Meta Watch article for showcasing the winning lists, and the new Balance Dataslate for Warhammer 40k as well!

Best & Worst Armies For the End of 2023

The latest best and worst armies of Warhammer 40k and 10th Edition Metawatch are from Warhammer Community.

warhammer 40k meta 2

At the top with a win rate of 57% are the Craftworlders, who remain powerful after targeted changes in the previous Balance Dataslate – but not oppressively so. Their malevolent Drukhari cousins sit on 44% – lower than the Studio wants, but not by much.

Despite all the changes so far in 10th, Aeldari still sits at the top (as they have done since the beginning of the edition) and still has over a 55% win rate. The game is more balanced than we’ve seen, with only two armies outside the 45%-55% range.

Drukhari takes the bottom spot right now, and it seems they need some significant changes to really get back in the meta. Then, Leagues of Votann flew from the bottom of the meta to the top with the changes to their army ability (and stayed there for about a month now). Custodes have continued to fall after their NERFs, while the Orks remain near the top.

This means we’ll probably see some buffs back to the Custodes, Guard, and Drukhari. For NERFs, we could see Aeldari get hit once again, but also expect CSM, Votann, and possibly Black Templars in there as well. Let’s hope they do more than just points buffs for Drukhari, as they are already very cheap; they really need some upgrades to their combat power and not just more models!
