space-marines-new-relics-litanies-psychics-titleDon’t miss even more new Space Marines codex rules as we dive into Relics, Litanies, Psychic powers, and Secondary Objectives!

Just like with the other Space Marines codex rules, some of these have been changed and some haven’t. Overall though there is a lot to check out with it comes to all these new abilities for your army’s characters no matter the chapter.

TL;DR If you want to check out the rest of the Codex rules not on this page we got you covered below:

Most of the relics seem to be very slight tweaks with nothing too major. Nonetheless, let’s check them out.

sm relicsBurning Blade is just a standard power sword upgrade. If you want a character to have some extra slapping power, it’s not a bad option.

Primarch’s Wrath got a slight buff as it gained an AP point so its still a decent upgrade for your bolt-weapon wielding characters.

Also worth noting is that the Shield Eternal gained the new Storm Shield abilities of 4+ invulnerable, and +1 to the normal armor save.

sm relics page 2Tome of Malcador allows a Librarian to take extra Psychic power. Nothing too special, but still a super solid option for some extra flexible psychic impact.

The Vox Espiritum adds 3 inches to a Primaris characters auras but doesn’t work on psychic based auras. This is another simple and effective relic. Getting a bit more juice on your support is a safe pick.

Space Marines Litanies

sm litaniesCatechism of Fire allows the chaplain to select a Core or Character unit within 6 inches and allows them to add one to wound ranged rolls if the target is the closest target.

Recitation of Focus similarly allows the chaplain to select a Core or Character unit within 6 inches, but instead allows them to add one to all ranged hit rolls.

Space Marines Psychic Powers

Psychic Powers now have type labels as they did back in the 7th edition, and just like the new Strat categories, the rules may end up interfacing with them later in unique ways.

sm psychic page 1Veil of Time and Psychic Scourge are unchanged, other than receiving their tag labels.

Might of Heroes can now only be used on Core and Characters. This seems to be a recurring change, GW really wants to limit a lot of old buffs to just your rank and file and characters, instead of being able to buff anything in your lists.

sm psychic page 2Soul Sight and Mind Raid are unchanged, other than receiving their tag labels.

Shrouding seems pretty good. It prevents a Phobos unit from being shot at unless its the closest model to the target. At WC 6 it’s pretty easy to cast as well. The model also can’t be shot by overwatch either, which may be important to take advantage of.

Space Marines Secondary Objectives

sm secondary objectiveOur overwhelming opinion is that these are pretty lackluster. However, the most likely one you are to take advantage of is Shock Tactics. This awards 3 points if you take an objective that was held by your opponent in the previous round with an Astartes unit.

Oaths of Moment is also decent, as it allows a max of 4 points being scored every round.

So overall again, a few shake-ups, and a few new abilities/ combos to potentially make up for it. Only time will tell what new combo rises to the top as Space Marines and Necrons kick-off 9th Edition.
