Cities of Sigmar AoS Units Moving To Legends & Old World

RIP-Gone-But-Not-Forgotten-warhammer-legendsWith the rework to the line, some Cities of Sigmar units going to Warhammer Legends and won’t be in the new battletome at all.

Obviously, the Cities of Sigmar have sort of bloated over the years, as they were just the random collection of units that didn’t fit into another faction. They also had many races included, from Aelves, humans, to even Duardin. However, these models won’t be gone for good, as GW says most of them will reappear in The Old World.

So, if you have any of these minis, you’ll have to rework your army and maybe start playing Old World to keep using these miniatures, or GW says proxying them as other things in the battletome is fine (we’ll have to see what they say about tournaments).

They will be getting a ton of new miniatures (which you can see here), so while some models are going away, at least something new is taking their place.

Cities of Sigmar Units Leaving the Range & Battletome

Let’s start with what’s staying in the Cities of Sigmar Battletome according to Warhammer Community.

Cities of Sigmar Units Leaving the Range

We’ve now seen a new General, and new infantry, cavalry, gunners, and even an ogor, while more updated units – including artillery – are on their way to a preview article near you. These miniatures will be replacing many current models on a like-for-like basis.

Quite a few current units, including the Steam Tank, Celestial Hurricanum, and Imperial Griffon, will continue their service as part of the Cities of Sigmar.

It’s nice to see the Steam Tank and Celestial Hurricanum staying, as they are quite expensive kits!  Plus if you already have them, you’re in luck!

As for the other races who make up the armies of the God-king, duardin and aelves still feature in the book – though the focus of the new battletome is definitely the  mortal humans. The same is true of the new miniatures releases – aelves and duardin have been well served over the past few years with battletomes of their own, and it’s high time that the humble humans put the “mortal” back into Mortal Realms.

This means that Cities of Sigmar generals will have a lot of options for how they construct their forces. If you like the look of the new mortal humans, you can certainly make them the backbone of your force.

It’s quite apparent they are trying to make this far more focused on the humans, but you can still play with some of your Aelves and Duardin, and they also say you can field an entire army of them if you want. However, it sounds like the humans will get most of the support.

What is Leaving the Cities of Sigmar Model Line?

Cities of Sigmar Units Leaving the Range 4

To make way for these new models, Inevitably some units will be leaving the Warhammer Age of Sigmar range. Many of these aren’t gone for good, and will in fact be returning in due course under the banner of Warhammer: The Old World, as reinforcements for the High Elves, the Wood Elves, and the Empire.

If you have any of these classic models in your existing Cities of Sigmar line-up don’t worry. In almost every instance, there’s still a similar analogue in the battletome. For example, you could use your Wildwood Rangers (elite aelves with two-handed swords) as Executioners (elite aelves with two-handed swords).

There are some really beautiful Cities of Sigmar armies out there in the world that have made great use of the existing range, as well as conversions and inventive paint schemes, and we’d hate to see them shelved, so by all means carry on playing with your miniatures. Just make sure that if you are using older models which aren’t in the battletome, your opponent is clear which units represent what.

Some of the miniatures that are leaving the Cities of Sigmar model line are mostly core units, with the crossbowmen, Freeguild Guard, Greatswords, and plenty more. Many Wood Elves are going by the wayside, and none of the above will be appearing in the new battletome.

Cities of Sigmar Units Leaving the Range 5If you want any of the minis (GW hasn’t updated the list, but that icon on the bottom left denotes it), most of them are on the Last Chance to Buy List, so if you want them, get them soon before they are gone (well at least until Old World comes out.)
