GW Drops New AoS Battlescroll Balance Update

warhammer-age-of-sigmar-warscroll-updatesHere’s what is changing in the latest AoS Balance Battlescroll for October 2022 and a new format from Games Workshop.

GW promised they would give out the points for free, and this time it looks like they put out an errata for each faction with the changes. However, they mention they will summarise them, but not carried forward into the new Battlescrolls.

This new AoS Battlescroll will be a compilation of all the rules changes, updates, and tweaks which will be downloadable here.

Update: The new 2023 AoS Battlescroll update is out; you can find it by clicking here.

GW Drops New October 2022 AoS Battlescroll Update

Now, let’s check out the official release from Warhammer Community.

The first thing you’ll notice with this Battlescroll is that we’ve tweaked the format a bit to carry forward any rules changes from previous Battlescrolls that are still in effect. In future, Battlescroll changes will be handled as follows:

  • There will only ever be one active Battlescroll at a time.
  • Rules changes will be carried forward until they have been printed in a book (e.g. core rules changes from Battlescroll: Gods & Heroes have now been printed in the latest General’s Handbook).
  • New rules changes will be highlighted in magenta.
  • Points changes will be summarised but will not be carried forward into future Battlescrolls as they will be implemented in the Age of Sigmar app and Warscroll Builder.
  • All changes – including points – will be included in errata documents for the appropriate factions, available here.

AoS BattlescrollWe had actually seen the changes to Purple Sun before, this just cements them. Then, Beasts of Chaos is a change from White Dwarf to get you a point on a 3+.

AoS Battlescroll 3Nothing too huge here, but they are trying to get the armies within 5% win ratios of one another, so hopefully, these new little changes actually work well.

AoS Battlescroll 2The points are probably the biggest changes in this whole thing. A lot of armies received huge buffs in terms of decreased points! As you’ll see in a second, most of the armies here are the ones not performing very well, so it makes sense.

Then, mainly Maggotkin, Seraphon, and Beasts of Chaos received some nerfs with changes, most notably, Maggotkin grabbed five increases and no decreases.

We would love to see this same format ported over to Warhammer 40k in the future!

Overall Balance

AoS Battlescroll 4

As shown in the graph above, we currently have a handful of factions outside of our target win rate, and we have made targeted adjustments in this Battlescroll to try to bring their win rate in line. These factions tend to fall into one of the following categories.

As you can clearly see, Beasts of Chaos have flown up the list, while there are some armies sitting at only a 40ish% win rate, so quite the variance. Poor Kruleboyz… Well, hopefully, this will help!
