BREAKING: GW Announces New 2021 Release Schedule

new-gw-codex-releasesWith the end of the year quickly approaching GW just announced some major changes to their new release schedule moving forward into 2021

Warhammer Community just put out a post about release patterns and their plans moving into the first months of 2021 and beyond. Let’s check out all the details and how it will impact your hobby.

GW Announces New 2021 Release Schedule

40k codex Road map

2021 promises to be an amazing year, packed full of rad Warhammer releases – with something new and exciting arriving every month. That said, the global situation means Warhammer releases in January and February will be lighter than in recent years.

Rather than weekly, you’ll see new releases every fortnight, with the first pre-orders of 2021 on the 16th of January.

First off, there will continue to be light releases into January and February especially due to the current situation of the world, just like the allocation of products to stores recently. Second, and more importantly, new releases will be every two weeks, which means that things will roll out slower.

We don’t yet know if this means exactly half as slow, or if they will release more at once, just not as frequent…

If you’re a Warhammer 40,000 fan, you’ll see a new codex or expansion every month in January, February, and March starting with the Death Guard – Nurgle, bless ’em, they have waited a long time…

As we know, Death Guard was delayed until January, meaning the two Codexes originally planed were moved back to February and March respectively. We know that these are going to be Dark Angels and Drukhari.

However, there is a sneaky inferred announcement here too. Codex releases won’t be paired going forward, and new supplements like Warzone Charadon may also be included in this book count too.

mystery christmas AoS factionFor Warhammer Age of Sigmar fans, you’ll see the next new battletome (and a bunch of incredible minis) drop in February. Trust us, this one’s a doozy – we’ll even give you a sneak peek on Christmas day!

The final announcement was for a sneaky Christmas Day AoS sneak peek. We don’t know what the faction is and we don’t know if they will explicitly tell us during the sneak peek either or if it will be a rumor engine-like peek.

Hopefully, it is a full reveal and we get to see a few models! There have been rumors about Dark Elves return with Malerion for a while, so hopefully, that rumor finally comes to fruition as he’s a pivotal character and still hasn’t be re-introduced yet.

What do you think the AoS Battletome is? Do you like GW taking a slower release cycle for 2021? Are you disappointed you may have to wait longer for a populated 9th edition updated faction roster?
