dread alternative1This week, we’re focusing on the Marines, but they have so much more than Marines on the Patreon. Now, let’s jump into how you can paint up some red Space Marines.

Step 1:

Paint how to Red Space Marines 3He starts by spraying the model with Vampire Red and shades the entire model with Targor Rageshade. Once dry, he tidies up the red with a drybrush of Blood Red over all the raised areas. He then does a quick drybrush with Burnt Orange to highlight the armor a little more.

Step 2:

Paint how to Red Space Marines 4For all the areas he wants to be darker or metallic, he does a wash with Black Legion. He does this in areas like gun casings, cloaks, etc. For any gold, he just basecoat them with Bronze, and it should only take one coat. For all the Silver areas, he basecoats them with Oily Steel. To tie in the metals with the rest of the model, he hits them with a wash of Targor Rageshade. This would bring your mini to a tabletop standard (other than the base), but you can always take it a few steps further.

Step 3:

Paint how to Red Space Marines 5It’s time to start highlighting! For all the black areas, he highlights them with Ash Grey and does this in a scratchy style. To finish off the black areas, he does an edge highlight with Graphite. For highlighting the armor, he follows the same style and highlights all the armor with Burnt Orange. To finish it off, he highlights the sword with Frostheart, but you can use any color you want here!
