Warhammer 40k 10th Edition is looking to be the best yet from GW and might even have a smoother transition than ever before!
As you know, we don’t agree with Games Workshop from time to time here and will call them out on their antics because we are not their influencer. However, this time around, they seem to actually be handling the transition to the new edition well and listening to what people have wanted.
A lot of it focuses on free rules (for now); however, the gameplay also looks really good so far. While we can’t say fully yet how the games will go, making things faster and simpler at the beginning should also help with power creep.

Now, let’s jump into why this is the best edition yet!
You Need to Understand Why 10th Edition Warhammer 40k is the Best Yet.
FREE RULES AT LAUNCH! It doesn’t get much better than that for a new edition, but this time, they are taking it a step further. It’s not just that they will have the downloadable core rules; all faction rules will be FREE at the launch! Plus, you’ll be able to download the new Datasheet cards for every faction.
For those without a printer, or wanting something more “professional”, you can also buy the data card packs if you want, but for the first time in the history of ever, a purchase will not be required to play on day one!
Indexes Are So 2017…
Perhaps best of all, unlike the Index books of 2017, each faction is represented by its own rules downloads and Datacard packs! You won’t have to get the Xenos index pack, for example, to play Tau on release.
Each faction’s rules will be released separately, and you don’t have to look over a giant book, PDF download, or buy unwanted cards to find your army’s new rules.
But What About The Power Creep?
There will also be no waiting around and using your old codex and cross-referencing all kinds of rules from there while leading the new 10th Edition mechanics.
For some, with 9th dropped, it was insanely annoying to use an old Codex for months before you got anything for a new edition.
Sure, there will be power creep when the new codex books drops, but we have balance dataslates to help. And, if they actually make this edition simpler, in theory, it will be harder for new armies to get a ton of rules bloat. With the focus on everything fitting on a few pages for army rules, we hope it will not get nearly as bloated as previous editions.
The only thing we are a little worried about is the launch products because Games Workshop has had caps for months now… Let’s just hope they do better with this release than with the Lion, or even Indomitus (the 9th Edition Starter Set)! It seems like over three months of hype before the release, tons of hobbyists will want Leviathan.
Let’s just hope they make enough.
