Converting Chaos Chosen- Bring on the Pain!

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.  It’s funny how getting your ass kicked can change your mind about things, gaming especially.

So a friend of mine and I play a few times a month.  He’s a bit of a power gamer, and constantly reminds me that I am not through his ruthless slaughter of my minions.  To be fair, he is often gearing up for one sort of competition or another, so I kinda become a sounding board for new armies, and the sound is BOOM!

Recently I’ve been experimenting with the new Chaos codex.  I’ve been enjoying some of the more embellished units like Possessed and champions with the boon of mutation and the like.  That all changed when my friend Spence brought an army of all Grey Knight terminators to the party.

And man did they come to play!  Those 2+ saves are brutal.  Of course, there are plenty of ways to tackle 2+ saves . . . monstrous critters, power axes, tons and tons of shots (or attacks), and specialty weapons like plasma or melta guns!

When it comes to plasma, nobody, not even Plague Marines, can bring more guns to the party than chosen!  You can pack 5 or even 6 (if you count plasma pistols) into a squad.  The problem is that the chosen model, while beautiful, comes in 5 specific poses, and none of them carry plasma or melta!  What to do, what to do . . . time to kit bash!

Of all the chosen models in the Dark Vengeance boxed set, you get 2 figures with bolters that convert up easily enough.  Below you’ll find a step by step visual tutorial on how to convert these models.

And just to show that the other chosen can be converted too i’ve included pictures of the chosen with power axe converted up also.

The basic conversion is pretty straight forward.  Clip the bolter off at the hands (or better yet, never glue it in place at all) then simply grab a spare set of bolter arms from the basic chaos space marine kit.

Clip these at the wrists.  Fit them into place on the model as closely as you can match.  This may require a little trimming to get them lined up approximately into position.
Then you’ll need a few spare meltaguns or plasma guns, or the like.  If you don’t have any in stock, you pick some up from your favoriate neighborhood bits seller, like Spikey Bits!

Check out their complete list of Chaos bits here!  The trickiest part of the conversion is probably smoothing over the join between the wrist and hand on these figures.  A little epoxy putty (liquid green stuff, grey stuff, or the like) and you’ll be right as rain.

In the case of the power axe marine, it’s even simpler!  Just one quick clip at the wrist then affix the new specialty weapon in place and presto!

In this case, be sure to swap out the chosen backpack with a basic backpack from the chaos space marine box .
