Can you guess how much retail value will be in the new Horus Heresy Starter? This truly may just be the best deal ever from Games Workshop.

To get an idea on what the new starter set may contain in addition to the Astartes sprues and Praetor/Centurion HQ that we’ve seen so far, let’s take a look at the most current rumors about what may be coming our way soon.

Horus Heresy: Battle for Ultramar Miniatures Contents:

44 miniatures
Artificier Armor Centurion
Mk IV Maximus Marine Squad (x10)
Mk IV Maximus Marine Squad (x10)
Mk IV Maximus Marine Squad (x10)
Cataphractii Terminator Praetor
Cataphractii Terminator Squad (x5)
Cataphractii Terminator Squad (x5)
Contemptor Dreadnought
Unknown model (conflicting reports say a “counter to Contemptor”, or simply a 2nd Contemptor)Decal sheet for multiple legions, split evenly between Loyalist and Traitor Legions

So way back in February, we were hearing that the Cataphractii and the Contemptor would be the anchors to a new starter set.  After seeing the leaked pictures of the Heresy sprues, that is probably not too far off from the truth I suppose.

So keeping that in mind lets break down the retail pricing from Forge World:

  • Artificier Armor Centurion, Cataphractii Terminator Praetor  £31.50 For the set of two
  • Mk IV Maximus Marine Squad (x10) £46 plus £23 for the bolters
  • Mk IV Maximus Marine Squad (x10) £46 plus £23 for the bolters
  • Mk IV Maximus Marine Squad (x10)£46 plus £23 for the bolters
  • Cataphractii Terminator Squad (x5) £34 ea
Cataphractii Terminator Squad (x5) £34 ea
  • Contemptor Dreadnought (say 2 of these are included) £32 ea

At those prices this box set comes out to a total of £336 which equals out to about

$547.68!!!

Now remember that if this becomes a staple system in Games Workshop stores to replace the Hobbit, like we’ve been hearing, they can easily break apart this box and make smaller box set releases after the starter comes out as well.

What will the retail price be for the Horus Heresy Starter?

Traditionally in the past we’ve never seen a starter set go over $135 (or $150ish for the Stormclaw). That price would make the contents above an obvious value, and may even entice multiple purchases of the same box in fact.

Seems to me that a starter set of Horus Heresy as listed above and priced at a ‘bundle’ discount, may just be the best deal we’ve ever seen from Games Workshop.
