New Wookiee Fighter X-Wing Tactics

By Barclay Montgomery | June 29th, 2017 | Categories: Star Wars Tactics, X-Wing 2.0

The Wookiee Auzituck gunship is a new fighter for the Rebellion that adds new dynamics and tactics to the X-Wing game. Come take a look at some of the pilots of this sturdy ship.

This little ship has a very interesting dial featuring only 1 red maneuver, but has no means of turning around. No Koirogan turn, or Segnor’s Loop for the Wookiees. This dial can favors an approach from the sides which can help bring its 180 degree firing arc to bear on any Imperial ship that dares oppose it.

The Kashyyyk Defender is a humble ship at Pilot Skill 1. This ship has the distinction of having only a Focus as a standard action, but also features the Reinforce action on a small based ship. This can help to reinforce the ships defenses, netting a free evade result, depending on fore or aft being reinforced.

Since the Wookiee Defender has 2 crew slots, Wookiee Commandos is a perfect cheap upgrade for it. At 1 point, you get to reroll your focus results while attacking. This frees up your action for Reinforce, which will boost your defenses.

Lowhhrick is a nice wingman Wookie at Pilot Skill 5. His ability allows you to spend 1 reinforce token to give a friendly ship at range 1  a free evade result. This is a great ship that can help keep your more vulnerable ships protected or can further boost the defenses of Biggs!

Wullffwarro is a great defensive pilots at Pilot Skill 7. His ability is perfectly suited for him to take the hits instead of your other squad mates. When attacking with Wullffwarro, if you have no shields and at least 1 damage card, you roll 1 additional attack die. If at Range 1 and his ability kicks off, he can throw 5 attack dice! He could take the hits for your team and the Selflessness Elite upgrade can help him get his ability off quickly.

This Elite upgrade allows you to discard it to suffer all uncanceled hits instead of a friendly at range 1. Whenever he takes hits, he gets stronger, so keep him close to other friendlies!

Breach Specialist is a great upgrade for the healthy Auzituck as it prevents you from getting faceup damage cards. When you are dealt a faceup damage card, you may spend 1 reinforce token to flip it facedown. Then for the rest of the round whenever you are dealt a faceup damage card you may flip it facedown. This is a great way to keep your ships free of those nasty critical effects.

The Wookiee Auzituck adds a whole new element of gameplay to Star Wars X-wing. Will you be able to adapt to its new tactics and maneuvers?
