Mortarion and his fallen brothers take on the noble Eldar in this 8th edition codex battle. Who will prevail: Nurgle’s favoured or the Craftworld Aeldari?
Austin and Kinder go head to head in battle codex, pitting Craftworld Eldar against the Death Guard. These two forces are battling in a Dawn of War, two part mission. Primary mission objective: Table Quarters. Secondary mission objective: Kill Points. Terciary mission objectives are the standard Slay the Warlord, Line Breaker, and First Blood. Kinder seizes the initiative and goes first.
The Armies
Kinder brings the Death Guard, featuring Mortarion, Typhus, Chaos Sorcerer with jump pack, Plague Marines, Poxwalkers, and two Leviathans with Butcher cannons. He is running these as a battalion with a super heavy auxiliary, and the warlord trait Arch Contaminator. Total points for this list: 1998. Total command points: 6.
Austin is running the Craftworld Eldar, featuring Lilic Nightspear, Rangers, Dire Avengers, and a Warlock in a Battalion formation, running as Alaitoc. He is also running a Lyanten Vanguard with a Spirit Seer, Wraithblades, Wraithguard, Wave Serpents, and the Super Heavy Auxiliary Wraith Knight with sword and shield. The Warlord Trait is Iyanden. Total points for this list: 2000. Total command points: 7.
Turn One
Kinder starts the game by advancing and moving forward towards the middle of the field, looking to get board control early. Mortarion is able to move forward and is able to cast several different psychic abilities, including Curse of the Leper against the Rangers. This hits the Rangers for 3 mortal wounds after the required dice roll. In the shooting phase, the Leviathans do some decent damage against their targets. Mortarion declares a charge and makes it in against the wraiths. Assault phase, host of plagues does not hit any of the units nearby. However, his main attacks does take out the wraith with ease.
Austin starts his turn with spending command points to use the Cloud Strike stratagem. Shooting phase, some zombies are killed, the wave shield hits for several mortal wounds on Mortarion, and several wounds are passed across the table. Off the bat, 5 command points total are spent with the deep strike stratagem, plus using the wave shield to whittle away at Mortarion.
Heading into turn 2, the Eldar have 2 command points left while the Death Guard have 5 still available. Mortarion is down several wounds, while the Eldar are split in how they are going to attack the rest of Nurgle’s chosen horde.
