We’ve been getting a lot of new teasers for the grimdark future of Age of Sigmar, but WTF are we actually looking at in the Malign Portents? Do you know?
So I’m just like everyone else, I love a good teaser, but the Malign Portents has me asking the same question every time I see a new teaser…. What the hell am I looking at?! I’m one teaser away from sitting in the fetal position with head between my legs in a mental ward. Oh wait, that was a teaser too…
Games Workshop definitely got my hype level up when they announced that Age of Sigmar was going to be getting a little more of a grimdark feel. The Malign Portents is due here soon, as we’ve already seen six teasers, and I still have no clue what any of them mean!
The hype has turned into confusion and I have no clue what to expect for the future of Age of Sigmar.
Plus to make it even more exciting / confusing for us not in the know, we’ve been getting teasers for the new Nurgle units alongside the Malign Portents, and it just makes it even more confusing. Nurgle doesn’t seem like it’s changing at all, minus some new models, but nothing teased about Nurgle hints at a more grimdark future for AoS the way the Malign Portents does. From all of the Malign Portents teasers we’ve seen so far it looks like AoS is in for a very dark future, (didn’t the mortal realms just get re-settled finally) but it would be great if the teasers made sense.
I completely understand teasers are not supposed to reveal much, but at least give us something! So far we’ve seen a field, a ship, a statue that turns into a skeleton when the lightning strikes, a shooting star, glowing eyed people floating in a village, and someone balled up on the ground in an asylum. WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN?!
The most revealing thing for the Malign Portents we’ve seen so far is the countdown clock letting us know when we can make sense of all the “teasers” we’ve seen so far. At least with the Rumor Engine we get a preview of small parts of minis that we’ll be seeing in the future, and ultimately keeping our curiosity. Games Workshop has truly done a great job with the Rumor Engine, but one thing I would really like to see for the Rumor Engine is a page where we can go to see what pictures were part of what mini after they’ve been revealed.

I love that Games Workshop has been taking such an active role in the community, giving us previews of the weekly releases, but I really wish they would’ve handled the Malign Portents teasers a little differently. The overly convoluted messages have nothing to do with each other, they don’t reveal anything related to the future of Age of Sigmar, they are just simply dark. So what can we expect for the grimdark future of AoS? At this point I don’t think anyone actually knows except for Games Workshop.
