Dinosaur Island: Totally Liquid was just funded on Kickstarter and with over 20 days left, and is still crushing it with close to one million dollars in pledges!
Today I want to try something a bit different. As an avid patron of Kickstarter I wanted to share projects which caught my eye and may interest the reader.
Dinosaur Island was a smashingly successful hit sensation on Kickstarter last year. Netting around 6000 backers it also sold out quickly in retail stores, it is a brilliant and exciting game. You may have even read my review on it, from the initial run earlier this year as well.
This time Dinosaur Island is back on Kickstarter for those who missed out on the deluxe components. For returning backers, an exciting expansion, Dinosaur Island Totally Liquid. If the name alone doesn’t give it away this new expansion debuts water dinosaurs. Players parks can now have extensions that can have baby dinosaur petting zoos or even casinos. There is also a fifth player board to up the player count from 4 to 5 players.
There is also park blueprint module which will give bonus points for following a specific layout for your park tiles. This expansion will also feature a mega meeple for extra large dinosaurs which will draw in more visitors but will add much more danger to your park.
Another aspect of this project is Duelosaur Island, a stand-alone two-player version of the game with its own unique mechanics. This game will play much differently than the standard game but will be perfect for two players and won’t take up as much table space.
This game uses the popular “I cut you choose” mechanic that will cause you to make your dice drafting choices more carefully. Both of these games will be coming to retail, but given how quickly the base game sold out, getting in on the ground floor now isn’t a bad idea.
There are several tiers you can back where you get just the Totally Liquid ($45), Duelosaur Island ($35), the Base Game ($85), or you can go all in for all three products ($150).
This Kickstarter is doing quite well given how wildly popular Dinosaur Island turned out. It’s crushing all the stretch goals put out during its first weekend alone. As of the time this article is being written they are fast approaching $1,00,000 out of the $25,000 needed to fund the project. That is simply amazing, with over 9000 backers there seems to be no end in sight. As a huge fan of Dinosaur Island, I couldn’t recommend this project enough.
The new stuff the expansion brings to the table are gonna be exciting and I look forward to trying out the two-player stand alone as well.
