Skywalker Tips & Tactics: Star Wars Legion

By James Rodriguez | April 26th, 2018 | Categories: Star Wars Legion, Star Wars Tactics

It’s the Rebel’s turn in today’s Star Wars Legion build, and we’re going to be taking a look at some tips and tactics for playing Luke Skywalker. The force is strong with this one!

Luke Skywalker is an icon in the Star Wars saga, and Fantasy Flight Games has done a great job at bringing that same feel to the tabletop. Out the gate, Luke is going to cost you 160 points, but for what he does that’s not a bad price to pay.

Luke Skywalker Legion

Luke Skywalker has 6 Health, a Courage value of 3, Movement 2, and 1 red defense dice. Courage is what’s used to determine if you’re Suppressed or Panicked. So, in Luke’s case, once he receives 3 Suppression tokens he becomes Panicked, and at 6 Suppression tokens, he’ll become Panicked. Luke also has Jump 1 which lets him perform a Move action, ignoring terrain that is height 1 or lower. Charge is going to give you a free melee attack action after you perform a move action. Deflect is going to make it so if you spend a dodge token while defending you gain a block and surge, and if it’s a ranged attack the defender suffers 1 wound for each surge icon rolled.

As for attacks, Luke is a pretty hard hitter. Anakin’s Lightsaber is a melee attack that has 5 black dice, Impact 2, and Pierce 2. But if your target is out of melee you still have Luke’s DL-44 Blaster Pistol that is range 1-2, 2 red dice, and Pierce 2.

Now let’s take a look at the upgrades. For the first Force slot, we’re going to be going with Force Reflexes.

Legion Force Reflexes

Force Reflexes is a 15 point upgrade, but it’s definitely worth it! This is going to be a free action that can be used once during Luke’s activation, but it’s going to give him a free dodge token. This is going to synergize perfectly with his Deflect ability, and you won’t have to waste one of his actions to get the required dodge token.

The next Force upgrade has to be Saber Throw.

Star Wars Legion Saber Throw

Saber Throw is going to perform a ranged attack with Anakin’s Lightsabre at range 1-2. That’s going to be 5 black dice you’ll be able to use on a target within range 2, that’s going to be a huge advantage in keeping Luke safe. Then you factor in you’ve already gained a dodge token with your free action, his Deflect ability, and Luke is doing a lot of damage without ever getting into melee range.

The last upgrade slot we have available is the Gear slot, and honestly, it may not be worth the added points. For 6 points you can take Targeting scopes and gain Precise 1, or you can spend 3 points on Grappling Hooks and gain Expert Climber. Neither of these will help you out too tremendously and it would be smarter to spend those points elsewhere in your list.

Total points cost is going to be 185 and it’s still going to be cheaper than the base cost of Vader. Overall, this build is going to make Luke Skywalker a really hard hitter, while still keeping him a safe distance away to maximize his time on the board. Get within range 2 and stay there, just keep him protected and unleash the power of his lightsaber on your opponent.

I am a Jedi, like my father before me.
