Sometimes a single unit with the right training can accomplish what an entire brigade cannot. As demonstrated on Endor, when a small Rebel strike team managed to bring down the shield generator protecting the second Death Star, these specialized troops can be invaluable to any army.
Of course, commandos aren’t a high-damage unit. But they are designed to agitate the enemy from outside of their threat-range. You’ll still need a strike force of other rebels to help put in work, but commandos are experts at harassment.
The sniper can target anything from range 1 and beyond. It has the piercing rule and your enemy can’t spend dodge tokens to prevent damage. You’ll force your opponent to scavenge whatever cover they can find with a couple of these in your backfield.
The unit can also deploy Proton Charges to halt enemy attempts at pushing forward.
Beyond their proficiency with some of the deadliest weapons available to infantry units, the Rebel Commandos are also a flexible unit that can be inserted into the field in two distinct configurations.
On the one hand, you can field a full unit of Rebel Commandos containing four standard miniatures with the option to add a heavy weapon miniature. On the other, you can build a two-miniature strike team focusing on one of the two heavy weapons miniatures.
Tactical Flexibility
Take one large unit to deploy charges onto the field or split the group into two units and load up on snipers. The unit is all about flexibility.
Taking a small group is risky. It lets you take more snipers for cheap, but they are very vulnerable. Keep them back and in LOS of your leader to give them commands.
Commandos are going to be shot at just because of how annoying they are. Luckily, they can use Duck and Cover to gain a suppression token and get even better cover.
