Learning a new game might be a little intimidating. Get more familiar with the near future skirmish game, Infinity, and start playing your starter box now!

Jumping into a new game is always daunting. Learning new rules, learning the factions and their own unique gameplay style can be overwhelming. It can be confusing where to pick which units and models to buy once a faction’s been chosen, but luckily many companies provide handy starter kit to jumpstart your army.

Even so, it can still be difficult to get familiar with their contents. Here we’ll make a breakdown of this starter kit’s contents, what they are, and how they should be played.

Today we’ll be covering the models featured in the Yu Jing half of the Red Veil two-player box for Corvus Beli’s sci-fi skirmish game, Infinity.

Zanshi

zanshi

The bread and butter foot soldiers of the imperial state, your three included Zanshi models are basic soldiers to fill points and orders. Nothing’s too amazing about their statline, other than a reliably good close combat ability, which in itself is a stable across all over Yu Jing. Equipped with moderate armor and a combi rifle, Zanshi fill the roll of cheap soldiers. Their best uses are being good for holding lines, getting advantageous kills, and acting as bodyguards, just as well as providing extra orders to command your more important units.

Zuyong Invincible (Terracotta Soldier)

If there’s one thing Yu Jing have a lot of, it’s heavy infantry, and the Terracotta Soldiers happen to be easily accessible with a lot of wiggle room for setup. They’ll be your beatsticks, with 3 armor and BTS, and more importantly, 2 wounds. The starter kit model is equipped with a Multi Rifle, an advanced Combi Rifle with access to multiple kinds of ammo that’ll become useful for whatever enemy he may be dealing with.

Alongside that, he’s equipped with 2 breaker pistols, which means he’d get an extra shot with one, that acts against an enemy’s BTS save, halved, as opposed to someone’s armor save. A handy unit, and one of the cheaper heavy infantry, with the handy ability to be taken as a lieutenant, forward observer to help target enemies, or a paramedic for a cheap, but somewhat unreliable medic.

Hsien Warrior

hsien warrior

Generally speaking, this one model is going to be your lieutenant many times throughout your earlier games. Coming in at an expensive point cost, it’s important to keep him safe, as the Hsien Warrior will put in proper work. The Hsien Warrior has high stats across the board, with 2 wounds to boot and heavy armor. Atop this, His extremely high CC abilities, Armor-piercing close combat weapon, and basic martial arts will nearly guarantee he can take care of anything in close combat.

He’s also equipped with Multi-spectral visor 2, allowing him to ignore the negative debuff when discovering and shooting at models with Camo, T.O Camo, and other sight-messing equipment. The model included features and HMG as his weapon, perfect for laying down heavy fire. A definite powerhouse, the Hsien is a good unit to take on most enemies, but don’t be too greedy with him, it’ll hurt more if all those points are lost to an ARO.

Tiger Soldier

tiger soldierOne of the more interesting units included in Red Veil is the Tiger Soldier. This one’s a medium-armored infantry unit with the ability to perform a Combat Jump, landing most anywhere on the table in a manner similar to Warhammer 40k’s Deep Strike ability. Atop this, the featured model is equipped with several fun tools in its disposal, a Combi Rifle, and a Light Flamethrower to torch groups with templates, or enemies stuck in cover.

The real cherry on top is its Assault Hacking Device, able to mess with enemy TAGs, Remotes, Heavy Infantry, and other hackers. A veritable Swiss army knife unit, once more important to plan its actions carefully to not let this useful unit get merc’d too early.

Ninjaninja

The ninja is a model exclusive to the two-player set, unavailable in the normal starter set, and is coveted both for its model, equipped with a tactical bow, and its abilities. The Ninja has an unassuming statline, other than an absurdly high CC skill, allowing it to crit on multiple results instead of an equal number. On top of this, a Double Action close combat weapon and Martial Arts level 3 make this a deadly foe to go toe-to-toe against.

Kinematika and Multiterrain allow it superior mobility, but the true power of the Ninja unit is its Thermal Optic Camo and Infiltrating. This combo allows it to deploy anywhere on the owner’s side freely, or on the opponent’s side following a Physical test. Along this, the model will be in a token state, preventing your opponent from knowing what it may be, and requiring him to discover it before being able to shoot your sneaky unit.

A tip for this unit is to run it with the Killer Hacking Device profile, allowing it to use deadly programs to attack other hackers. Combining this with its ability to get closer quickly and without danger makes for a great unit use.

All in all, the Yu Jing starter half is a very solid force, with two heavy infantry, a combat-dropped handy unit, and a deadly assassin character. Very easy to expand from, and a sturdy beginner list on its own. Hopefully this guide helped familiarize yourself with your intro to the Imperial Army!
