What The New 40k Ork Army Lists May Look Like

Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka

Orktober is right around the corner and with all these previews and rumors swimming around, we’ve got some ideas of what some Ork lists may look like.

Orks have been the center of attention even before the release of the Space Wolves codex. We’ve gotten Speed Freeks Previews on top of rumors revolving around Clan Traits and Stratagems. Let’s use everything we’ve got to break down what we may be seeing on the tabletop.

Red Paint go Fasta!

We’ve slowly been seeing vehicles from Speed Freeks get previewed. (This has been over the course of a few weeks). The latest previews were of the Wartrike and Boomdakka Snazzwagon.

GW Reveals Another New 40k Ork Vehicle & More

New units AND a new codex is just begging to see power creep. Hopefully, these new vehicles for Orks will send them over the hump into the competitive scene. We may be seeing lists that run multiple of each vehicle like the Dragstas and Snazzwagons.

These lists should be especially strong in “Snag & Grab” type games like The Prize.

We might even start to see mortal wound Ork lists.

So just how can we get these mortal wounds? Well when you take a combination of Boyz and a Weirdboy, you can basically guarantee yourself a D6 mortal wound smite going off every time. If you didn’t know, Psykers can add to their psychic tests depending on how many Boyz are close by.

There’s also a RUMORED stratagem called Ramming Speed that lets vehicles ram into things for some mortal wounds. Remember to take it with a pinch of salt.

  • Ramming Speed: A vehicle can charge 3D6 and do some mortal wounds when they make it into combat.

So, following the rule of three and only using the same stratagem once per phase, we can total out 3D6+X mortal wounds a turn! Not too shabby when most of it comes from the psychic phase. We’ve still got our Shooting and Combat phases to go.

Keep on Krumpin’

On the other side of things, we may see lists that have proven to be the strongest of Ork lists from the beginning of 8th edition. Boyz, Boyz, and more Boyz. But not just any Boyz. We’re talking about Slugga Choppa Goff Boyz.

If their Clan trait is accurate, they’ll be able to topple anything on the board just because of the sheer weight of attacks.

Goff Clan

Goff: Each hit roll of a 6 generates an extra attack in combat.

Again, this is another RUMORED trait so don’t take everything to heart. Assuming this is true, Boyz already get four attacks and you can take them in blobs of thirty. You’re looking at 120 attacks out of one squad with each roll of a 6+ generating another attack. Orks are also Pseudo-fearless as long as a Boss is close by to keep them in line.

But wait. Ghazghkull Thrakka is THE boss AND he’s a Goff. If he does turn into a Prime Ork and reflects something remotely close to Robbie G, Orks will most definitely see tournament play.

Don’t forget about the possible Green Tide  stratagem.

  • Green Tide: Select an Ork Boyz unit with at half-strength. Pick them up and redeploy them full-strength within 6″ of a table edge and 9″ from an enemy.

When you spam Boyz and notice one group start to get low, you could always Green Tide them back onto the field. They’ll be like Cultists bigger and scarier brother.

Orkish Beta Strike

Ork players may even start running a Beta Strike list with another rumored stratagem.

  • Tellyport: A Player can put 20PL worth of Orks and deepstrike them 9″ away from an enemy unit.

Imagine being able to keep 30 Boyz in deepstrike for a turn. Then on your next turn, fling a blob of 30 Boyz up the field wit Da Jump and drop in the Boyz you kept in reserve from a stratagem(Of course this has to be done in the movement phase but you get the idea). That’s 60 models 9″ away from you in a matter of seconds. If those Boyz don’t kill the problem outright, they’ll at least buy the Ork player time to get the rest of his army up the board.

If you don’t want to go with Boyz in the Tellyporter, you can even throw some Tankbustas to the side with all their bomb squigs. Then, drop them in and almost guarantee yourself a tank-kill.

We’ve still got more previews that are for sure to come for Orks. All of these stratagems and Clan traits are rumors for right now. But what do you think Ork lists will look like when the codex comes out? Do you have a list that you want to try already? Let us know in the comments of our Facebook Hobby Group.
