40k is going to hit the tabletop in a new way once again! The Relic board game reboot has been announced by the folks at Wizkids for 2019!

Hot on the heels of the Talisman board game, Wizkids have announced the re-release of Relic. But what is Relic exactly? We’re glad you asked.

Protecting the Antian Sector

relic

A classic adventure game set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, this 2-4 player game has players venturing forth to protect the Antian Sector, shielding it from certain doom. Each player will choose one of 10 unique characters, each of whom has a unique set of attributes that can fluctuate throughout the game. Each character also has an affiliation, representing a variety of different memorable groups in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. A scenario is then chosen randomly, which dictates the special rules and objective for the game.

Relic is the 40k version of the Games Workshop classic TALISMAN game (that Wizkids is also remaking)! You get to pick your character (as they all have different skillsets). You and your friends are then tasked with protecting the Antian Sector from the forces of Chaos and any other threats to the Imperium.

You’ll roll 1D6 and move onto a certain square on the board. Then, you’ll draw some threat cards and hope that you’re prepared to take down whatever may pop out at you. You win the game if you clear the inner tier of any threats!

This game isn’t just any board game, however. It’s absolutely eye-popping with color and complex re-playability- all the missions are random!

Of course, it only makes sense that the Imperium would have specially trained agents to venture out into space and clear vast sectors of any kind of threat to Mankind. Will you and your friends be joining each other’s company in claiming more influence for the Imperium?

Relic is set to release sometime in June 2019. The game can allow for 2-4 players and should take no more than three hours to play (well in theory…). Until we see more previews on the game, what do you think will be lurking behind the asteroid fields of the Antian Sector?

We covered the game way back in the day when it debuted the first time by FFG, and took a closer look at the Halls of Terra expansion as war came to the Sol System as well!

It’s unclear if Wizkids will publish this old expansion too, as only time and the success of Relic’s re-release may tell…

Which character are you hoping to play? Let us know in the comments of our Facebook Hobby Group.
