Another expansion is coming in hot for Star Wars Legion! Rebels are bringing in the elite Pathfinders to scout the way for the rest of the force.
Fantasy Flight Games announced that another expansion to Legion was on the way showcasing a brand new unit called the Rebel Pathfinders. But just what will this unit bring to your game? Let’s explore!
Rebel Pathfinders
Unlike other units that face the enemy head-on, Rebel Pathfinders excel at setting up ambushes and, as a result, they provide benefits from the very beginning of your games of Star Wars: Legion. The Rebel Pathfinders can easily Infiltrate enemy territory, ignoring normal rules for deployment and setting up anywhere on the map beyond range 3 of all enemy units!
Rebels know how to get into the perfect position all while keeping a safe distance from the enemy. At only 68 pts a pop, you’ll be able to take control of objectives across the board before the Empire even has a way to react!
A unique thing about the Rebel Pathfinders is that while they are deployed in all sorts of nooks and crannies across the map, you can give them the overwatch upgrade and have them wait to see an unlucky Imperial Soldier step out from cover.
The Rebel Pathfinder’s weapon of choice is the A-300 blaster. Now, this isn’t the most lethal weapon in the game, but it is definitely versatile and a step up from the normal blasters.
- The A-300 Short Range: gives each model in the unit a red attack die when they shoot. However, like the name of the configuration, you’re forced to shoot at a shorter range.
- The A-300 Long Range: gives you the ability to target enemies up to range 4 away! Of course, with the tradeoff of a little stopping power.
If you really want your Pathfinders to do some real leg-work, you can throw in Pao or Bistan into your force. Pao becomes the leader of the Pathfinders unit you throw him into and gives an Inspire 1 bonus! As for Bistan, you may want to run him in a Pathfinder’s unit that likes getting up close and personal to the enemy. He adds a total of five more dice to your attack pool and can even ionize enemy armor.
Overall, the Pathfinders are able to fill the shoes of two important roles on the table. You can use these with some Rebel Commandos and make an elite Guerilla warfare-type fighting force. What are your thoughts on the Pathfinders? Are you going to run more than one squad? Will you keep them back with range 4 weapons or bring them in up close and personal?
