Chaos 2.0 has been here for a minute now and it only has one problem… Nearly everything in the codex is actually useful. So here’s a handy buyer’s breakdown for new and returning players that explains what every power unit does in the new codex.

Chaos Marines
Why they’re good: Chaos Marines are back in a big way when you play Red Corsairs. The legion trait is good, (advance and charge) they give you a ton of bonus command points, and they have a unique stratagem that allows you to replenish them like cultists. Tide of Traitors is now Tide of Power Armor.
Do they play out of the box? Yes. Everything counts in large amounts with the red corsairs now. All you need are piles of bodies and bolters from the Shadowspear Box Set.
Terminators
Why they’re good: Plasmacide is back! Or it’s better to say, plasmacide never left, it just got better. Terminators are now a phenomenal firepower unit at a reasonable price when equipped correctly. Drop them in your opponent’s lap and start rolling dice.
Do they play out of the box? No. GW in their wisdom decided that there shouldn’t be enough chainaxes or combi plasmas in the box, so you have to do conversion work to get the ideal loadout. Steal the chainaxes from the unit champions in Shadowspear first. Then, find some extra plasma to stick on their bolters from anywhere you can find them.
Greater Possessed
Why he’s good: He’s okay, but you’re getting two of them for free in Shadowspear. His purpose is to hand out his buff to daemon keyworded units. It’s good if you’re building a big fat daemon ball that wants to run forward and punch stuff. However, you should note that with all the psychic and stratagem wombo combos open to Chaos now, you can totally live without his aura and still gas up enough to hurt your opponent without him. Consider him to be like the Master of Possessions- a good guy to have around while you’re learning, but probably a drop off once you unlock the true power of Chaos.
Do they play out of the box? Yes. They’re just fatter, bigger, spikey dudes.
Raptors/ Talons
Why they’re good: The Host Raptorial from Vigilus opens up new options for building around these guys and using them as bully units to drop into your opponent’s lap.
Do they play out of the box? Yes. Pretty much everything a raptor/talon box requires is on the sprue.
