Another throwback to the old Dogs of War Mercenaries looks to be on the way for AoS along with points changes and more in Generals Handbook 2019!
The team at Games Workshop have been pumping out a steady stream of awesome this weekend at Warhammer Fest 2109! Let’s take a look at what is in store for Age of Sigmar!
What a year it’s been for Warhammer Age of Sigmar! Since the release of Soul Wars and the new edition (previewed this time last year at Warhammer Fest 2018), it’s been non-stop goodness for fans of the Mortal Realms, with armies old and new coming to the fore, incredible models and loads of battletomes. The narrative has never been richer, matched play never more diverse and the game never more fun – and it’s about to get even better in the new General’s Handbook.
This year’s essential guide for gaming in the Mortal Realms is packed with content for every kind of player. For open play, a new Open War army generator means you’ll be able to rally your forces in moments, while close-quarters battles and Hidden Agendas offer fresh challenges for you to get your teeth into.
Mercenaries (aka Dogs of War) Coming To AoS
For narrative players, you’ll be able to get stuck in with an in-depth set of rules for fighting in the cities and ruins of the Mortal Realms in Streets of Death. New mercenary companies allow you to add a selection of narrative-led, thematic units to your army. Perhaps you’ll employ the Maneaters of the Gutstuffers, or a Gargant from the notorious Grugg Brothers. Meanwhile, characterful name generators for loads of factions mean you’ll never be with our an appropriately epic moniker for your favorite Hero!
From the previews, last weekend, w had heard that Mercenaries were coming back to Age of Sigmar, and now it looks like the Generals Handbook will have COMPANIES of them!
Hidden in the previews of the new terrain, GW also made the announcement that some mercenaries are coming to AoS.
First up, we’re excited to unveil the all-new mercenaries system. With Forbidden Power, you’ll be able to recruit renowned sell-swords to your cause regardless of Grand Alliance. So, for example, you could have a Chaos army and enlist some of the notoriously ur-gold hungry warriors of the Greyfyrd lodge…
The most exciting thing about this is that the mercenaries won’t be tied down to Allegiance keywords. For example, you can bring a Fyreslayers dude and mix him in with some Beasts of Chaos. (These mercenaries are just in it for the money, just like the Dogs of War back in Warhammer Fantasy Era). With that said, we’re guessing we will start to see more unique characters come to AoS…
Meeting Engagements: 1000 point games
Matched play won’t just be receiving new battleplans, but rather a whole new way to play, aimed at making smaller games viable for tournaments and competitive events. Balanced around the 1,000-point mark, Meeting Engagements offer key twists on normal Warhammer Age of Sigmar gameplay, is fast to play and takes up a smaller space than a fully fledged game.
Looks like Games Workshop has totally revamped and made better their three ways to play mentality! They have added new aspects to all three of their game systems for Aos. This will make for a more diverse gaming club and allow players of all skill level and model count to get better games in, bringing hobby back with style.
