Daemonic Legions 40k Apocalypse Faction Rules Spotted

Daemon armies can be broken into two elements – a core of horde infantry that’s fast and deadly in melee, and an elite cadre of monstrous Greater Daemons.

Changing the probability of the dice, Daemons will be a bit more tanky with Daemonic Invulnerability. Daemons are innately squishy so this might bring them on the same playing field as some of the other units in the game in terms of survivability.

rotigus

WHC previewed an in-depth look at Rotigus and he really plays similar to how he does in 8th edition. He gets a FNP (although it’s only a 6+++) and he can deal out damage with his Deluge of Nurgle rule.

Instead of handing out a mortal wound like 8th edition, he gives you a free blast marker on an enemy unit if you manifest a psychic power.

Fiends of Slaanesh

psychic backlash

If you’re a fan of Slaanesh, you’ll also be able to pick on poor Psychers that find themselves too close to units with the Psychic Backlash ability like the Fiends of Slaanesh. Essentially, the Warp could pimp slap a Psyker back into submission as long as you roll higher than their leadership on a D12. That shouldn’t be too hard to do considering most Space Marine equivalent units have an Ld of 6-9.

Skarbrand Is Still Very Angry

Skarbrand is going to be boasting his classic weapons, Carnage, and Slaughter.  With wounding in the game operating on a D12 mechanic, he’ll definitely be slapping around infantry and armor alike. The real question that still stands is just how many attacks he’ll be getting.

rage embodied

With a similar rule found in 8th edition, Skarbrand just makes everybody around him extra angry too. Anyone around him fights harder and can’t fall back. This goes both ways so be careful on what units you sit next to him.

Daemonic Command Assets

This thing acts like a Psychic nuke if you have a Tzeentch Psyker on the field. You pick one point and roll for everybody around it. On a 6+ you get a free blast marker on the unit you rolled for. Make sure you put this in a point where there are as many units as possible to get the maximum amount of rolls.

Denizens of the Warp can get you a free unit back each game that you can keep trying for! You have to roll 2D12 and exceed the power level of a unit. But if you roll bad, the card isn’t thrown away. It goes back into your hand and is usable next turn. This frees you up to keep trying for an especially scary unit like a Bloodthirster or a blob of Plaguebearers.

Daemons are looking pretty powerful overall from what we’ve seen. We still need to look at their base save characteristic, however. They might be on the squishy side even with Daemonic Invulnerability and may have a serious lack of armor-popping firepower (which is also a big weakness in 8th edition). Let us know what you think about the Daemon’s rules in the comments of our Facebook Hobby Group.
