Where have some of these new Space Marine rules been all our lives? Don’t miss some of the spicy new Chaplain Litanies of Hate rules combos that are fire!

Previews are starting to make their rounds around the internet of some hobbyists that got the book early. Among some of these are the Litanies of Hate for Chaplains. Check out what they’re bringing to the table soon.

Space Marine Chaplin Litanies of Hate Combos Are Going To Be Fire

Looking at the Primaris Chaplain datasheet, you can see that it still has the Litany of Hate rule that allows hit re-rolls. But there is another bit of spice tagged on. The Chaplain has the Priest keyword that unlocks a Litany of Battle. At the start of the battle round, this model can recite the litany it knows. on a 3+ it goes off.

While that probably nixes jumping out of a pod combos (unless it is FAQed to be allowable while in reserve), there is still plenty of effectiveness to be had!

So what Litanies of Battle do we have to choose from?

litany of battle

The picture is a bit blurry, but essentially here’s what we’ll have to choose from:

  • Litany of Faith: A CHAPTER unit within 6″ gains a 5+++ FNP. Note that it doesn’t stack so Iron Hands might not ever want to take this.
  • Catechism of Fire: Select a unit within 6″ of the Chaplain. They add 1 to wound rolls for shooting at the closest visible enemy unit.
  • Exhortation of Rage: Select a unit within 6″. 6’s to hit in melee generate an additional attack.
  • Mantra of Strength: Add 1 to attack, strength, and damage of the Chaplain.
  • Recitation of Focus: A unit within 6″ can add 1 to the hit roll for ranged attacks.
  • Canticle of Hate: Add 2″ to charge rolls for units within 6″ of the model. In addition, friendly units can pile in/consolidate an additional 3″ if they’re within 6″ of the Chaplain.

With six options to choose from, they all have to be done at the beginning of the battle round. While all of them are entirely viable, the most popular one will probably Catechism of Fire. Bolt Guns could be wounding on a 2+ against most screens with this active. (It’s just so good).

Another great option is the Recitation of Focus. With Eldar Flyers getting up to -3 to hit, this might give a Devastator Squad the edge to shoot a Flyer right out of the sky.

All in all, Chaplains are bringing a new aspect to the game that might entice players to bring at least one in every list! What do you think about their buffs? How many Chaplains do you run in your list already?
