Clues hidden in plain sight may shed some light on the pose and 40k rules for the highly anticipated Mephiston miniature for the Blood Angels!
Mephiston is the Chief Librarian of the Blood Angels. Being the only Blood Angel to completely overcome the Black Rage, he’s a nasty unit to go up against in-game. He is exceptionally harder to kill than you might ever expect too. Being T5 and having a 5+++ FNP already, what could he look like if he crosses the Rubicon Primaris with his newly-announced model?
Earlier Mephiston Rumors
Coming from Kikasstou on B&C:
- This will be themed around Blood Angels and Tyranids (probably picking up from the events of the Devastation of Baal).
- Mephiston is supposed to be getting a new Primaris model.
Mephiston’s New Model Teased
Warhammer TV previewed a short video teaser giving a few angles on Mephiston’s new model:
Of all the angles in the video, the last two pictures are probably the most important. the three takeaways are:
- His left hand & Sword are down at his side
- Mephy’s right hand is completely out of frame
- His cloak and robe are blowing to his right (to the left of the frame)
Now check out how his 2nd edition 40k codex artwork has him portrayed in this classic by Mark Gibbons.
Back then the Blood Angels shared a codex book with the Dark Angels
Here’s Mephiston’s entry from that tome.
Mephiston’s 2nd Edition Codex Artwork Enlarged
While it’s important to remember that we haven’t seen his whole model just yet, the clues and angles spotted above seem to be pointing to his 2nd edition codex artwork. With that said, it’s a safe bet that he’ll also be hitting the scene with new Primaris stats as GW has yet to give any attention to a normal Space Marine character and NOT make him Primaris since the start of 8th edition.
What Would a Primaris Mephiston Look Like Statswise?
Current Mephiston Model
Remember that Mephiston in his normal Marine state, is T5 with a 5+++ FNP. With the help of a few psychic powers like Wings of Sanguinius and Quickening, he’s a pseudo Smash Captain in his own right. However, if he were to get a Primaris Model, he may become even more devastating.
When Tigurius got his Primaris model, we saw his points change slightly also while giving him a bonus wound and attack.
If the same translates over for Mephiston, he could be M 7″ WS 2+ BS 2+ S5 T5 W6 A5 Ld9 Sv 2+. All in all, if he were a part of the Psychic Awakening wave, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him get a whole new table of psychic powers as well. However, it depends ultimately where GW wants to go with it. Mephiston costs 160 pts right now. And depending on how GW changes him if/when he becomes a Primaris Marine, we could see him shoot up somewhere just under 200 pts.
What stats changes would you like to Mephiston get if he were to become Primaris? Does he also need an innate invuln save?
