Another Hobby Business Calling It Quits This Holiday: MaxMini

As 2019 comes to an end, things are shaping up to be a rough year for hobby businesses out there. Check out the latest word from MaxMini.

MaxMini, a source for awesome alternate models and bits, specifically in the realm of Demons, Orcs, Beasts, Wastelanders and Guardsman (which make for awesome Guard pieces), etc. has announced that they’ll be closing up shop by the end of 2019. But don’t worry, they’re finishing the year out strong, and may live on.

Other Hardships for Companies This Year

Before jumping into the details on MaxMini, it’s important to remember that they aren’t the only ones who have been hit with hard times in the hobby. MiniWarGaming fell on hard times and thankfully, with support from the hobby community at-large, has helped them continue (at least for a time while they get things figured out).

White Metal Games also announced that, due to financial difficulties, they may be closing their doors down in early 2020. This is unfortunate as this team of exceptional artists has pulled off some incredible works of art.

Max Mini closing Down at the End of 2019

Coming from Max Mini’s public announcement on their webstore:

We’ve been discussing it for the past year and we’ve come to conclusion it is time to close shop with the end of 2019. Till then we’ll operate normally – so we’ll still release a couple of new stuff, the orders will be sent, models printed and so on.

While those running the company are calling it quits, it’s not because the minis weren’t selling. They mentioned certain conflicts and “stagnation” with those working under the roof.

Shortly after KS some pretty nasty stuff happened to both me and Kacper privately, in a very short time span. Sadly it affected the workshop. While we eventually recovered and got the workshop up and running again the chemistry was gone. We no longer worked as a team and we’ve no longer complemented one another.

Don’t get me wrong – the store and sculpting commissions still bring money. But I don’t feel we’re moving in the right direction and things have been stagnating for the past 2 years. I feel that under new roof, with more energetic team the range could blossom.

MaxMini’s is Looking For a Home for their Model Range

Max Mini might be closing their doors, but they are looking for a good home to keep the range of models alive. They have some pretty sick sculpts that you won’t be able to find anywhere else. Plus, they are already making efforts to find a home among local vendors but are reaching out to anyone who might be interested in cultivating what they’ve already begun.

My hope is that it won’t be the end of the range. At this point we’re in talks with some local vendors that are interested in picking up the range. And there’s also task for you – if you know someone that might be interested / someone you’d like to take over – let us / them know. The more, the better chance it will find a better home.

With such an incredible line, it would be a shame to see it all pass away. With yet another company falling on difficult times for the end of 2019, here’s to hoping that 2020 is a brighter year for hobby businesses in general.
