Every kodama has a tree of their own. It’s their job to watch over it and help it grow up strong and healthy. From trunk to twig, they must make the perfect home for flowers, mushrooms, and critters of all kinds. Even other kodama love to travel around and visit new trees. Now it’s your turn! Create your own masterpiece of branches and leaves, and make the forest more beautiful than ever.
Kodama 3D is a competitive tree-building game. Your kodama friends gather branches from the forest to add to your tree. When you add a branch tile to your tree that does not match the features of the connected branch, you will draft a new goal card. At the end of the game, you score points based on the goal cards you have successfully completed. The player with the most points becomes the guardian of the forest!

Build 3D Space Tree: Kodama 3-D Board Game Review
In Kodama 3-D you are helping the forest spirits grow a tree. For the original card game you place the card’s artwork to create a panorama of a tree. In this newest version, you are physically adding branches to a tree trunk.
Each player will control two Kodama and start with an end game goal card. These cards are how you earn victory points. You can also get new victory point cards each turn. Anytime you add a branch with no matching symbols you draw a new card.
Turns in Kodama 3D are very simple. First, you choose one of your Kodama and move them in a straight line. The branch you moved from is what you will add to your tree. Then you evaluate the symbols. If the Kodama’s color is not the same as the previous branch or the element such as firefly, mushroom, caterpillar, etc. doesn’t match then draw a new goal card. This card may come from the face-up display or blind drawn from the deck.
Once each player has placed twelve branches onto their tree the game will end and goal cards are then scored and added up. The player with the most points wins.
Kodama 3D is a newer game hot off Kickstarter and is also now available in retail. I really love the shift to the third dimension. Now you really feel like you are growing an actual tree. The artwork is beautiful and whimsical, much like you’d expect from the Kodama series. The Kodama meeples are super cute and well made.
If you are seeking a quick fun filler game for your game nights then look no further. Kodama 3D is fast easy to learn and easy to teach. Definitely a fantastic family game as well. I hope you get a chance to try this fantastic title out on your next game night.
