Check out 2 ways that we could see the Warhammer 40k meta shift with new Orks rules hitting the scene, once this pandemic blows over.
So we all know Ghazghkull is solid for his points. Sitting at 285 and slapping for four damage a swing, he’s a chonky boi that can bring the pain (if he gets close). Plus, with all the other Ork support in Saga of the Beast, they’re getting some of what they should’ve gotten back in Orktober. With that said, it’s possible we’ll Orks hit the tournaments in droves in the months ahead.
Here’s how that could shape the meta.
The Meta Currently is Tailored to Kill Primaris
As it stands right now, the meta is pretty focused on killing Primaris. Between other Primaris lists using the 2-damage stalker bolt rifles, Tau overcharging their Riptide’s Burst Cannons for 2-damage, and even Knight spamming Avenger Gatling Cannons, Primaris have basically been notched into the single-wound Marine tier.
But that’s all because Space Marines are the hotness right now. With Orks on the way, we might see a gradual shift into anti-horde lists.
Where the Meta Might Go…
Ghazghkull has the capability to be in every Ork list no matter the clan. He’s a melee force multiplier which means we could be seeing Boyz spam once again. On top of that, Makari is a Gretchin that’ll look VERY appealing to Gretchin spam board control lists. In both cases, we could be seeing 250-300+ models on the tabletop at any given time.
If an enemy list was geared toward paying a premium cost for multi-wound shots, the Ork list is sure to overwhelm them. There’s really no point in paying the extra points for extra damage.
So on that note, we might see lists reshape and gear toward horde clearing. Intercessors could be geared with the Auto-Bolt rifles (assault 3), Aggressors, which by the way get to shoot twice if they stand still, and Tau with Burst Cannons out the wazoo.
In the realm of Knights, the best weapon for clearing hordes is still going to be the Avenger Gatling Cannon so we probably won’t see much of a change there.
We’ll have to keep an eye out on the meta for sure. Once this pandemic ends, we are probably going to see fully-geared Ork lists drop onto the table in full force. It’ll be interesting to see how the meta counters the Greenskinz.
What kind of impact do you think Orks will have in the current meta? Will they keep certain lists in check?
