We Need Primaris Inquisitors In 40k: Here’s Why

female-inquisitor-sistersIs there a growing need for an Inquisition on the tabletop? Check out why we may need Primaris Inquisitors for Warhammer 40k soon!

Inquisitors can rock every type of regular Astartes power armor despite not being considered a “Space Marine”. However, with the growing trend of Primaris in the Imperium, it might only be a matter of time before we see a first-ever Primaris Inquisitors hit the faction.

Take a look at these reasons why.

Looking At It From a Lore Standpoint

inquisitorFrom a lore standpoint, it would make total sense to see these Imperial agents beefed up. If they’re in charge of uprooting corrupt government, daemonic rituals, or anything involving xenos, you’d think they’d send a little something more than a dude in some power armor. If the technology is there to make him twice as tough as normal, then why not? Plus, thanks to GW plot armor, none of the named Inquisitors would kick the bucket.

Just think of a Primaris Hector Rex in Aggressor armor. Sick right?

Looking At it From a Tabletop Standpoint

Inquisitor GrefaxThis is where things start to get a little technical. We may see a Primaris Inquisitor before too long for one key reason. Transport capabilities. For this, we’ll have to look at the Inquisitor’s datasheet. More specifically, Authority of the Inquisition.

authority of the inquisitionIt’s believed that Inquisitors can literally hop on any Imperial vehicle they want to. But the restrictions are actually a bit tighter than you might think. The way this works is, you don’t have to check so much the faction keyword. Rather, the other restrictions. For example:

land speeder storm datasheetThe Land Speeder Storms’ restriction is you can only put Scouts on them. No Inquisitor has the <Scout> keyword so even though they’re Imperium, they can’t fit in this thing.

repulsor datasheetFor the Repulsor, you can only transport <Primaris Infantry>.

impulsor datasheetThe Impulsor is just the same. You can only take six <Primaris Infantry>.

So, with this on the table and the steady support GW has given Primaris, it may be just a matter of time before they drop an Inquisitor Primaris model. Right now, if someone running a meta Ultramarines Primaris army wanted to bring an Inquisitor that’s even remotely mobile, they’ll also have to pay points for something like a Rhino, Razorback, or Stormraven.

With that said, most Space Marine lists these days (except for BA’s Sanguinary Guard spam/ WS’s Assault Squad spam lists) are running just about all- Primaris units. This puts Inquisitors in a less-than-desirable place.

While they weren’t as bad off as they once were when you used to have to sacrifice a whole detachment slot just to bring one, they’re beginning to become a little awkward to field once again (at least for mobile lists).

Now the question may be what kind of Primaris plot armor would they get? Would they get something from Cawl, or some other form of “Primaris-ing”?

Of the named Inquisitors who do you think would go Primaris first?
