GW Previews 40k Rules For New Skorpekh Destroyer

9th-edition-necronsJust days after seeing all the Necron hotness, we’re already getting new 40k rules previews, this time for the Skorpekh Destroyer. Check out the latest!

GW held some online previews and we saw 9th Edition announced along with a bundle of new Space Marines and some insane new Necron models. After seeing what looks like a potential for a Box Set coming alongside 9th Edition, we’ve got stats on a new unit from Warhammer Community.

In case you missed our coverage on the two faction pictures pointing toward a potential Box Set, we’ve got it all here below for you.

This Looks Like a 40k 9th Edition Starter Box Set!

Primaris Space Marines Wal HorFirst, let’s look at some pictures that have been taking the internet by storm that were datamined from the new Warhammer 40,000 website.

Of all the models that had computer renders revealed, they all share the same pose/wargear. There’s no variation between the renders and painted models, which makes us think they could be Easy-to-Build/Monopose miniatures.

Of the new units excluding the two characters in robes and the giant walker, the big three-legged things in the back are called Skorpekh Destroyers and the little bug thing perched next to them is a Plasmacyte.

If you want to check out the pattern between these 9th Edition previews and Dark Imperium, which dropped when 8th Edition was announced, take a look at this. Otherwise, we’re going to jump into the Skorpekh Destroyers who made their appearance in this faction shot!

GW Previews 40k Rules For New Skorpekh Destroyer

necron skorpekh destroyerYou might’ve seen this guy pop up in the 9th Edition teaser video with a Sister of Battle getting chased by him. Well, now we have an idea of how much they’ll slap in melee. If you didn’t already realize, these Skorpekh Destroyers are a part of the “Destroyer” family, which might have some interesting synergies with Stratagems (Although Extermination Protocols is only for Destroyers in the Shooting Phase).

necron hyperphase reap-bladeThey’re all armed with Hyperphase Reap-Blades that can melt through an Aggressor like a hot knife through butter.

This has been a VERY small teaser from GW on the new Necron goodness ahead, but we know that three of these guys might be coming inside a Box Set if we ever see an official word confirm a new Starter with 9th Edition. You can see them hanging in the back-left image above with a Plasmacyte, which we still don’t have the rules for either.

The points and basic statline remains a mystery for the unit. However, at least we know now that these dudes will be able to mulch through chunky targets like Knights and other vehicles if they get in close.

What do you think about the new Necron support? Do Necrons need better melee units overall? Would you like to see these guys get a built-in invuln if they aren’t very mobile?
